Saw the preview at Guardians this weekend, and the first thought that leapt to my mind, unbidden, as the trailer began, was "Isn't this story over yet?"  As much as I absolutely love the LOTR films, the books, and especially the book "the Hobbit", and I know I'm in the minority here, I just can't feel very excited about this final film.

I will certainly see it - but I am not stoked up for the movie.

Actually seeing the trailer before the "Guardians..." film got me excited for this.  I've said many times that Peter Jackson over added to this small book, but I've been enjoying these movies - even with all the added stuff.  They just look so amazing.  I'll be happy to see part three.

I finally watched this last night with my son.  I am glad I only paid $3.99 to rent in on demand..

I am huge Tolkien fan, and all of his stories are beloved to me - so the changes to the book were unwelcome.  I liked Hobbit 1, was disappointed in Hobbit 2, and disliked Hobbit 3.  Changes that make sense don't bother me, but much of this...
I think Legolas must have had some sort of warp drive, and he was able to get to Mt Gundabad & back within a few hours..even beating the flying bats taking the same route.
The Dune like worms digging tunnels...please.  Dain riding a pig into battle..
I still need to watch it. I have never read the books so I wouldn't know what changes were made but I did enjoy the LOTR movies better than the first two Hobbit movies.

The Hobbit films moved so far from the small book they were based on I just view them as something almost completely different.  But I enjoyed the films anyway.

P.S.  WillEagle you really need to read the books - at least "The Hobbit."  Classic stuff!

Pete, I felt the same way.  I kind of wish there was a version of the Hobbit that actually paralleled the book.  I'm sad about this.  :)

You said it!  The old Rankin-Bass musical cartoon is truer - although they cut a few items.

I did buy the Hobbit book but haven't read it yet. I thought I would try it before I tackled the LOTR books. Now to try and get it read.

I have read it many times, but I also have the books on tape version read by Rob Inglis.  It is a fabulous version - and you can listen during your commute.  :)

Luckily my commute is about 10-15 minutes. I couldn't even get a chapter in. But I do like audiobooks so maybe I'll check them out.
