Title: Holodeck Program - Suggestions
Post by: Geekyfanboy on September 16, 2007, 09:08:39 AM
Deep Space Nine had Vic Fontains Night club for the crew to hang out in and Voyager had the Paris Bar/Club and then Fair Haven for their crew. We wanted to create a place for the crew of the Tiberius to hang out on the ship. Post your suggestions and I'll make a poll of the top ten and will vote on where the Tiberius crew will hang out.

Hmmm I have one or two ideas. A Jazz Bar, A Tropical Report, Rome, or a cruise ship on an exotic ocean world.

A small American town set in the 50's. Dinners, sock hops, drive in theaters...

Old West townâ€"we could revisit the idea behind A Fist Full Of Datas: sheriff, deputies, bartenders...etc.

The Shire or the Green Dragon Pub from Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. Dwarfs, Elves and Hobbits come in and out of the pub...might be a good place to congregate.

Ancient Rome: complete with Gladiator arena, Olympics, extravagant meals, etc.

I can actually say that except for the fifties, I also thought about all of your ideas or ones similar to them. Like WOW as a holo setting. Great Ideas!

Ok, these are great ideas already...

here are a few more...

1.  A movie studio- filming an adventure movie.
2.  A submarine- like 20,000 leagues under the sea or seaquest
3.  A mountain climbing group
4.  A country club complete with golf course and shuffle board.
5.  A soap opera
6.  A vaudville show
7.  Roswell New Mexico around area 51- back when the ship crashed.
8.  The seach for our underwater Ally- Nessie
9.  Scuba Diving Team
10.  A Columbo who done it type of mystery holo.
11.  An English Monty Python film setting.  (How do you know she's a witch?)

Ok, that is all I can think of at this point... now to my walk!

I really like the 20,000 Leagues idea! All you're ideas are great...so are your's X. I think whatever it ends up being, has to be something that's easy to keep building upon. Something that's easy to write about.  :)

Here are a few more:

The Millennium Tower from Voyager.
A Zepplin Casino circa early 20th century.
A series of Grimm Fairy Tales type stories.
Camelot and it's various quests or a free running program like Fairhaven.
Mudd's Planet
A Gangster Speakeasy with molls and booze and the whole scene. People can be gangster, coppers, and private dicks.
The Bond setting as a setting where crew can be 00's or Q's or what have you.

I like the Speakeasy idea. We should add that to the poll along with the 20,000 Leagues idea. What if the holdeck program is  unique to the Tiberius? I think it's better to create a program that no other Starfleet vessel or station has.

Here's another suggestion:

18th Century Pirate ship  manned by the crew of the Tiberius. The captain could be played by any crew member...Pirate ships ran like a democracy in that the crew could vote for a new captain whenever they were dissatisfied.

Okay I've been thinking about all of the programs that people had on trek and thought I would list a few to give everyone some ideas.

There are almost all of them that every appeared in Trek and sub category breakdowns here: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Holodeck_programs

It seems that many of the lead characters created their own sims and then others started using them because they were invited or otherwise. All of the main Voyager holo locations were all Paris Programs. Vic's was a Bashir program.

Aeric might toy about in the NX-01 for the fun of it, but a good Holonovel is probably the thing to do. I also really like the ideas that have been presented by everyone else so far.

I think a classic novel revisited as a holonovel is the way to goâ€"it allows us to explore chapters of the book every time we visit. Much like Picard's private eye program.

What does everyone else think?

I like the idea.

Well when I started this thread, my intent was to get some suggestion for a "place" for the crew to hang out. But this has turned into some really good choices for some holo adventures. There are a lot of really cool ideas here. Thanks Moyer, Jen and X.

Those are really good ideas. I don't know how you're going to select 10 Kenny.  Are we going to have the chance to vote more than once?

Here's a weird idea: What if we have like a party RV or a small RV caravan as we travel throughout 20th or 21st century earth. . .hmmmmm

Like the crew of the Tiberius visits the biggest ball of yarn in South Dakota?

:)

Sorry, I just started thinking of all the funny things that would entail.

It can still be a single location, from a book. Like the pirate ship, the Speakeasy or the submarine. They are all central locations from various novels. Just a thought.

Okay this suggestion might sound odd. After much thought, I think a place like Floston Paradise, a twenty second century, flying cruise ship with musicians across time and worlds playing the grand hall, swimming pools, gambling, and relaxing on the backdrop of different worlds. Imagine ending the work day playing poker against some of the greats and then ending the night with a live concert by Billie Holiday or Sting.

Oh, yeah! We could so totally get kidnapped by these backwoods hicks and . . . squeal like a pig?

Oh, nevermind. Bad idea.  :biggrin
