We also watched the pilot of Journeyman tonight. It was pretty cool. hard to follow at first, but the mystery of it all was rather fascinating. This should be really good.

A bunch of shows for free, pretty cool.
Yup -- already watched 3 shows. I'll still watch them next week on big bad HD -- alas, its only a 50" set. Hey, maybe if buy him a turkey club, cole slaw (he won't eat it) and a cherry coke -- Rico will let me watch the shows at his place :biggrin
Yeah - sure come on over. Seriously - how about Monday night? Big premiere night then.
Party at Rico's!
When I clicked this link I was kind of wondering what Journeyman had to do with Star Trek but now I see that this is a discussion of a new TV show. Guess I'll have to check it out!
Kevin
I'll move the topic over to the Movies/TV section.
how much do you think a plane ticket to get to Rico's house? :D hahah jk.
uh-oh...have I started a fire that cannot be quenched ???
Flash Gordon worse then Power Rangers ? Worse than Sat sci-fi movies ?
So I watched this new series and I enjoyed it.. like Moyer I was a bit confused as to why he was jumping and I'm sure they will explain more as the series goes on but it was enjoyable. I like that fact ***Spoilers***I really liked that you thought through out the episode that he was there to save the man's life but really he was there to make sure this man's unborn child was born to be a great man... that was awesome. I look forward to next weeks episode.
Watched it this morning -- HD-DVR !! :smilie_nono:SPOILERS AHEAD:smilie_nono:
yes, it was a bit hard to follow. I think he travelled to 1987 and 1997. Its a nice twist on Quantum Leap. Loved the ending - I would have been disappointed had he not proved the time travel to his wife. The involvement with his old girlfriend was also good. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
I watched this one last night. It was interesting. I thought it was unusual that they didn't kind of explain everything of the how and why he is moving through time in the first episode. Obviously his "dead" ex-girlfriend seems to know something. I like the actors/characters and will keep watching but I'm afraid this show is too much like "Quantum Leap." And I really loved "Quantum Leap" so they have a lot to live up to.

I'm afraid this show is too much like "Quantum Leap." And I really loved "Quantum Leap" so they have a lot to live up to.
This is the main reason we did not watch. With so many good shows on TV we have to pick and choose and unfortunately the advertisements for the show looked to much like Quantum Leap for us. Is there anything that really seperates itself from Quantum Leap?
The big difference so far is he seems to jump back and forth from his own time to alternate times. Unlike on "Quantum Leap" where he was lost forever in other time periods. So this makes things hard for his present day life since it seems the time he is gone plays out in real time for him. So if he vanishes into the past for 2 days, when he comes back 2 days have gone by for him. So that's one big change right there.
So the second episode was okay but didn't grab me. I'll continue to watch, but if I miss it I'll won't go searching for it. I'm interested in finding out why he is jumping. For the second episode he help give birth to a girl who would later help a guy with cancer. Is this guy important.. was this just some random guy or is there something bigger in the works. Are all these folks he is help creating/saving part of a bigger plan? So many questions.
I watched the first two episodes, and I have really enjoyed them actually. I like how he moves back and forth from his time to the times of the people he is tracking. I like as well that he is not going really far in the past as well, helps keep it a bit more grounded and current. The first episode, after I figured out was happening, was really cool, and the ending was great and not what I was expecting. The Second episode was really cool as well, at first I thought that the whole helping give birth thing would be dull, but that was a small part. I liked the end again as well. I did not know what to make of his conversation with the cancer patient at the end, but then to hear that he is the one saved instead of the girls father was cool, and then for him to go on to be a pilot and fly humanatarian missions is nice. Just like the first with the boy going on to save people in a bus. I will keep watching this show, and hope that it lasts, but knowing my luck it will get cancelled.
Yeah we REALLY enjoy this show....One of the best "new" shows so far this year.
I particularly like the attention to the small things that give in the certain periods....him jumping back to the airplane in the seventies was awesome....smoking, toy guns etc.
OUCH !! http://tv.yahoo.com/falltv2007/photos/shows-in-trouble/169 (http://tv.yahoo.com/falltv2007/photos/shows-in-trouble/169)
I guess some shows - including Desparate Cavemen - is cancelled.
Not cancelled....just in trouble...in their opinion. Hopefully Journeyman picks up some new viewers because that is an enjoyable show.
I sure hope Journeyman continues on, as I am really enjoying it, probably my favorite new show of the season. This weeks epsiode was another good one, and had Dr Phlox as well :). Star Trek Night, with Lt Uhura and Lt Reed on Heroes
What I like is every week, they give you a little more on they how/why questions. I still get a queezy feeling this will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. That he was meant to go back and change things to make his time travel possible. I don't how they will resolve the storyline without ending the show -- it will be too Quantum leapish. The only reason I'm watching is to see how it will pan out.
FYI - we could be living in a timeline influenced by a time-traveler from the future (or past). We would never know it ---- ooooooo, that's SCAREY.
I'm really digging this show. I look forward to it every week. Of course Heroes is simply rocking, but I like Bionic Woman and Journeyman a lot.
NBC Gives Journeyman Two-Week Notice

Submitted by Kevin Bachelder (SerenityFirefly.com)
This may be just rumor, because I can't believe NBC is about to cancel their best new show this season, and one of the most intriguing shows on the air.
From Zap2It Blogs:
We're hearing that the next two weeks are crucial for NBC's Journeyman. While nothing official has been decided, the rumor is that if the Nielsen numbers don't rise for the Nov. 19 and 26 episodes, the network will yank the show, without airing all the episodes produced.
The network is only interested in the live Nielsens, not DVR viewers or downloads, says a show staffer. This is a problem for the show, because the majority of emails the show gets is from fans who watch online. Since ads touting the ability to watch Journeyman for free online are common, that's hardly surprising.
Looks like it's time to write more letters.
FRAK!!!
I think this is just a rumor.. I can't see NBC pulling the rest of Journeyman episodes (if they are actually made) because of the strike. They may not bring it back next season but they won't pull something just because of low ratings... they have nothing to fill it with.
I really hope they dont pull it, This is one of my favorite shows of the season so far. I think they should show all epsiodes produced, as I think that it would not be fair to the people who watch to just pull it leaving unaired episodes.
wow. I guess it's time to save the show. Umm did I mention that my extended family is a Nielson Family? I just need to go up and actually set the box when the show comes on and we can get it raised
Journeyman To End?
Kevin Falls, creator of NBC's time-traveling series Journeyman, told the Premium Hollywood Web site that it's possible the freshman show will end with episode 12, the last one produced, given the show's low ratings and the ongoing writers' strike.
"Episode 12 is the end of our order," Falls told the site. "And let's not kid ourselves. It's a longshot that we would get a back nine, given the strike and our questionable numbers." Falls referred to the additional nine episodes NBC would have to order to constitute a full season.
Falls added that episode 12 is written in such a way that it could constitute an end to the series should it be canceled. "It wouldn't answer every question, but it would give you a lot to chew on," he said. "We would give you some answers, and we'd withhold others."
Should the show return for a second season, he said, "we didn't want to turn over every card. But I think people will find it satisfying, and it's really good."
In the upcoming 12th episode, Dan (Kevin McKidd) encounters another time traveler. "And you'll get some of the answers to what goes on," Falls said. Journeyman airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT. (NBC is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.)
This is a really good show. I'd hate to see it end so fast. At least we may get a few answers before the end.
I have a question. In one of the earlier articles posted it said that the network does not care about downloads and DVR views.....WHY NOT?! So say the show has 1.5 million actual viewers but an additional 3 million people download it or DVR it....Why, on the Good Lord's green earth, would that NOT be taken into account? Is it a matter of tracking? I really don't understand the logic.
Advertisers don't pay for DVR viewing or downloads. They pay for people to watch their commercials during a show. If people are skiping the commericials thanks to Tivo, it does not benefit the advertisers and thus the numbers don't add to the profit of the show or the bottom line.

yes, nicely said. That is exactly why. Too bad though.
I had a feeling it was along those lines but I wanted to verify. It's kind of a shame though. I guess I understand the logic now I was just hopin for more than:
"Screw entertaining and well-written, I wanna make sure Joe Six-Pack sees my Levitr-iagr-alis and Conglomohuge Corp. commercials 2 more times than the 10 times he has already seen it today."
Oh well, it is what it is.
That is to bad it will end, but at least somethings will be answered. I like how each week things in Dan's life get more and more complicated, and how things he did in the past effect hwat happens to him in the future. The last few episodes were pretty good in getting the message across about how he cannot stray off his mission, as it can effect the timeline for him in the present.
To bad this will not last, as I felt it was delivering a lot, and they could take this story a long way.
"Journeyman" Will Get Its 12 Episodes
Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)
The good news is NBC has decided to go ahead and air the last two produced episodes of "Journeyman." There was some speculation and worry among fans and the show's creator, Kevin Falls, that NBC might pull the plug on the series early, leaving the last two completed installments hanging, possibly to never see the light of day (well, at least until the eventual DVD release). However, strong support by the on-line fan community has been heard and NBC will show these two episodes. However, fans may need to adjust their recording devices. The first half of this two-part episode airs on Monday, December 17th at 10 p.m. EST. The follow-up installment airs on Wednesday, December 19th at 10 p.m. EST.
This two-part story promises to provide answers to some of the series lingering questions and some resolution to the on-going plotlines. Series creator Kevin Falls says the two-parter could serve as a season finale, should the Peacock network not choose to pick up the series for a full season.
"There's still no news on our long term future, but we can promise you this: three terrific episodes inside of ten days," said Falls. "Oh, yeah, and you'll get some answers, too."
However, Falls says that while he's encouraged that the episodes will air, he's not giving up on the series seeing a full season.
On a post at Ain't It Cool News, Falls said, "Your comments and pro-active attempts to save the show are very much appreciated by me and my fellow Executive Producer Alex Graves, Kevin McKidd and the cast, writers and crew. But more importantly, it's working."
He went on to encourage fans to "But don't rest. We need you. We want a back nine–and beyond."
Falls also asked fans to vote for the show in the People's Choice Awards voting.
Cool news. This show deserves to continue. It's really getting good.
That is good news that NBC will show the final two episodes. Sounds like they have heard from fans online which is promising, probably not enough to save this series, but at least we get to see all that they produced.
Good to hear -- this is one my favorite shows. Even - dare I say -- better then Heroes ??? :o

NBC Says Goodbye to "Journeyman"
It looks like we won't be making many more time travelling trips with Dan Vassar as NBC has let the time for renewing the series slip through their fingers, according to "The Hollywood Reporter. The decision date for a pick-up on the series was December 11, with NBC execs. making no statement about the series continuing on the network.
While it is still possible to bring the series back at some later date, as time passes those chances get much slimmer.
"Journeyman' stars "Rome" actor Kevin McKidd as a San Francisco journalist who finds himself unstuck in time. Unable to control when and where it will happen, his character finds himself revisiting different dates in his past to help others out of terrible situations. .
"Journeyman" was allowed to complete production on its first 13-episodes. The last two will air soon. We can only hope that some other network owned by NBC or others see how good this show really is and give it a second chance, however unlikely that is.
NBC is yet to announce the fate of its other new SF series the "Bionic Woman." It too slipped by the December 11 deadline for pick-up, but without any announcement one way or the other of its future on the peacock network. NBC's third new SF series "Chuck," was picked up to complete its entire first season.
Keep in mind there are still two episodes left to air. Also, due to the writer's strike who knows what will happen come next fall. So keep watching, this is a great show!
I agree Rico, this is a great Show, I felt the Episode on Monday was Fantastic, and is leading up to some cool things. It is a pity that NBC is letting it go, I hope either they change their mind, or this winds up somewhere else, it is to good to let go so soon.
Is there somewhere online I can watch Journeyman?
NBC.com has episodes
or let me know which episode numbers you need and I'll see what I can do.
sweet!! I got my cable modem hooked up today and digital cable tv for the time we are out of the house.
YES!
:metallica:
They missed a week last week, so you might only be behind on epsiode 11 which showed on Monday, as the one previous was broadcast on November 26. I am looking at the torrent page for it right now, so could dload it if you want and post it on my website

Its going away ?? I'm bummed. I loved this show from the start but it needs to be on Tue at 9pm. The 10pm slot is better for Naked Housewives or whatever the name of that show.
Journeyman's Kevin Falls Says Bye to Fans
"Journeyman" will air its last episode, tonight - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 on NBC. For now, and unless the show gets picked up by another network, some other media outlet or a future special TV or big screen movie, fans will have to comfort themselves with the 13-episode DVD, which I'm sure will be forthcoming. When it does, do as fans of Firefly did, buy them by the bucket-full. Perhaps, just perhaps that will get the attention of the network decision makers. It did, afterall, get us a "Serenity" movie.
Series creator, Kevin Falls said his final goodbye to fans on the official NBC Journeyman Blog. Here is what Kevin had to say.
To the Fans,
Well, this is the message I didn't want to post. I'm sure as most of you know by now, Journeyman will likely not be getting a back nine order. Rather than dwell on the reasons behind this decision, my fellow Executive Producer, the great Alex Graves and myself would rather remind people that our last two episodes will air next Monday night, December 17th at 10 PM and Wednesday December 19th at 10 PM. These two episodes will provide some answers, plenty of speculation, a few surprises and hopefully some satisfying closure. They are, I promise you, very entertaining.
I want to thank the tireless and talented Kevin McKidd and the entire cast (in my opinion, the best on television and guess what, the kindest and most professional). Yes, it was hard breaking stories on this show, but it would have been harder without the collective genius of the writing staff. Every guest director that passed through said our crew was the best they ever worked with, basically telling me something I already knew. Some producers loathe their relationships with studio and networks, maybe that's because they never worked for the executives at 20th Century Fox and NBC. My sincerest thanks.
And finally, to the fans. Thank you for appreciating a different kind of show that sought to not only entertain, but to provoke and inspire. I'd like to think it says a lot about you. When the numbers slipped and we sometimes seconded guessed ourselves, you gave us validation and so we stayed the course.
Oh, and your fight to save Journeyman has humbled and moved us. I'm certainly not going to tell you to stop now. Again, our sincere gratitude and a deep bow from the waist.
It's been fun. I wish you all the Happiest of Holidays.
Kevin Falls
It is us, the fans, that owe Kevin Falls, Alex Graves, Kevin McKidd and the entire cast and crew of "Journeyman" our deepest thanks for giving the audience, probably the best, smartest and most entertaining and satisfying SF program for the 2007 season. And, if I may quote Bill Pullman (President Thomas J. Whitmore) from the film 'Independence Day,' "We will not go quietly into the night," but will continue the fight to get "Journeyman" the proper respect from network executives that it deserves. For those of us who are old enough to remember, it took ten years and a love for Star Wars to get Star Trek back, so this battle has only begun.
Really looking forward to tonight's episode, but will be bittersweet, as it will be the last. Really enjoyed Mondays episode, and looking forward to some more answers. Really sad that this show is ending, as it was really great, and got stronger and stronger each week.
I was reading an article complaining about the 2007 season in general the other day. That a lot of the shows were weak, and that the networks put shows on that appeal to no one, as they are trying to satisfy everyone. Got me thinking that shows like Journeyman and a few others are more meant for Cable these days. It seems like shows like BSG can really explore stories and characters. The article mentioned the differences between BSG and Bionic Woman and how the come basically from the same source, but how Bionic Woman is muted due to being on broadcast TV. Gets me thinking the broadcast TV is meant for shows like the Biggest Loser, Big Brother and the Choir show they are hyping this week, maybe the network audience does not want anything more then that. Hopefully some of these more unique shows will go to Cable, and really get a chance. That said, did not help Dresden Files last year which was cable :(
end of my rant, back to Christmas cheer.
I agree Jeff. It's an excellent series and deserves to continue. I loved Monday nights episode. Great stuff! The actors are just superb on this series. Some of the best I have seen in TV in recent years. I wish network TV could strive to be better and more intelligent but with all the stupid shows on I think Hollywood thinks that's what everyone can handle. Very sad. Can't wait to see tonights Journeyman finale!
Last episode - WHOA !!! Still reminds me of Quantum Leap.
That was a great episode last night! Dang, I love this show more and more after each episode. It's such a shame that's probably the last we will see of it. NBC suits are idiots. I'm so sick of ratings being the end all of what show stays on and what doesn't. If this show had been nurtured a bit it could have had the same following as a "Lost" or "Heroes" easily. At least we got a few answers last night and a bit of closure for the show. Man, I miss it already. If you haven't seen it, try and find it online and watch. You will all really enjoy it.
Well at least we got some answers, and liked how they transitioned from the previous traveller to Dan. At least they left it open to continue, and finally getting some information from Professor Langly that indicated there was something larger then just Dan travelling. The more he kept secret the better, it would seem things would start getting more dangerous. I liked how Katie and Jack believe in Dan's travelling, but how his marriage will most likely continue to have problems. They ended the show off in a nice way with him travelling away. I really hope that someone will pick this up and continue it, great show, and well done.
That's awesome! I'm putting it up on my the main web site.
I would put it up a link directly to the petition page on the main site. There are 3 petitions but one should be enough. One already has almost 5000 signatures.

Falls answers questions about Journeyman
Last season, NBC introduced viewers to Dan Vasser, a newspaper reporter who was mysteriously travelling through time, in the series "Journeyman." While many readers and listeners of Slice of SciFi became passionate fans for the show, the show didn't catch on with the larger viewing public and was cancelled after 13 episodes.
And while those 13 episodes did offer closure for fans, the series had just begun to scratch the surface of where it wanted and could have gone had it been allowed to continue its story.
Now with the series gone for good, creator Kevin Falls spoke with the readers of Ain't It Cool News, offering answers to some of the burning questions left open by the series cancellation and offered a glimpse of just where "Journeyman" could have gone had NBC renewed it or another network picked up the series and allowed the story to continue.
One of the bigger unanswered questions behind the series was who or what was behind Dan's ability to travel through time.
"Let's just say it was too specific and grand to be science or government," said Falls. And while the series may not have spelled out specifically the powers behind Dan's movement through time, it would have "led you to the water's edge and let you figure it out."
"The later conflict of the show was going to lie with those people who were trying to find the cadre of travelers. Would they try to manipulate them for their own self interests? [Recurring FBI agent] Richard Garrity was coming back for sure," Falls explained.
If the season had progressed, we would have found out more about fellow time traveller, Lydia's life in the past and would have meet her in the current time-frame. In addition, it may have been revealed that Lydia's goal in time travelling was to help Dan and his wife, Katie, get together to bring about the birth of their son, who showed a potential to travel like Dan in several episodes.
Falls said that another potential plotline would have seen Dan working to erase the government's knowledge of his ability to travel in time.
One of the initial end points for the season would have involved a plague of some kind, that Dan would have to work to avert. This plan was scrapped early when "Heroes" developed it's own plague storyline.
Fall went on to offer some fascinating details of the plan for the rest of season one, as mapped out by he and the writing staff.
"Katie and Dan were going to split up for a while. [Dan's brother] Jack and Dan were going to live together and then Dan and Katie would get back together. Livia was going to die in episode 20. Dan was going to save her in 21," he said. "And in 22, Dan would come back to his house in the present like he did in the pilot and someone else would be living there. Katie and Zack would be gone and this time Dan would have no idea how to get his family back."
"And then we'd start season two. I'm getting depressed thinking about it. This staff was so f—–g smart. We would have just gotten better," said Falls.
As for the fate of the series, Falls said the blame doesn't necessarily ride with NBC for the failure of the show.
"You know, I'm not bitter toward NBC as much as I am the mainstream critics who collectively dismissed us without giving us a second look. I think when we went out we were doing some of the best TV out there. And I'm so grateful that the on-line community embraced this show, actually got the show and ended up being the wind in our sails for the second half of the season," said Falls.
Hearing these potential storylines for the show, it only reinforces the sense of regret that such a wonderful show was cut short, before it was allowed to reach its full potential. But hopefully these answers will give some fans the closure they need and encourage those who didn't see the series to seek it out whenever its released on DVD.
Good and interesting stuff Kenny. Thanks for posting this. Dang - I sure miss this great show!
Yes, thanks for posting this, does make me regret that this show was cancelled.
but at least you guys get some answers.. unlike many many TV series that I have invested so much time into... "cough", "cough" Surface or Threshold of recent years.

Actually that wasn't so much as real answers as it was new story ideas for the next season, etc. Some of it I had read in other places. But still cool to read about again. Oh, if you hunt around both "Surface" and "Threshold" have had similar stuff released filling in some of the gaps. I know "Starlog" magazine has done some articles on them.
