I thought it might be fun to do a quick post about what we are all working on today. Whether it is at work, or home, or school, etc.
So what are we all doing today?
I'm working on some chemical formulation and solution problems. Here's an example:
I have to schedule some monthly MS patching changes. Work on some website quarterly health checking. Also setup some copy jobs for our Webtrends website log reporting server.
I just deployed a slight redesign to the product detail pages on www.pierredeux.com (http://www.pierredeux.com).
Now I'm prepping a bit for a conference call at 2pm where we'll discuss a complete redesign of the layout (I really dislike the current one). Then before the call I'll jump back to the development server and whip up some more new functionality per our roadmap.
Today when I get in to work I will be digitizing tapes for episode 106, 107 and 108. I'll be finding clips and footage for the opening of the show. Maintaining six edit bays, two assistant bays, three story producer laptops and three logging systems. Finding interviews to send out to be transcribed, trying to keep six editors happy (that's a job in itself) and I get to work on the entire post schedule and see if we can catch up in post some how before the money runs out. Of course there are fires that pop up all day so some things I do are unpredictable .
I have a small commercial project that I have to finish designing and drafting today....could be a late night. Lined up after that is city comments on a Walgreens site I am working on....Summer, the silly season of the development and construction industry...uggh!

Don't I know it!
"We want our new site live before the holiday season"
Story of my life.
Currently reviewing a suite of customer requirements against our programme offering, checking for compliance (and common sense...but that's always the way :( ).
For those who are interested, these are aircraft navigation system requirements.
I am working from home today waiting for our new stainless steel kitchen appliances to be delivered. Nice. :). I am logged on to the UBS remote ConsultWorks watching my client accounts, the market struggle against another pop in oil prices...my First Solar stock is up, though, may need to sell that....traded some Natural Gas stocks this am....everyday is a new adventure when you $50,000,000 in other peoples money to manage!
I get to study the 2nd chapter of Colossians, do a quick historical check on a couple of cultural behaviors from that time period and modify a press release to the local paper for next weekend. I have a wedding ceremony to fine tune and print off, fill out the couples marriage certificate and prepare for this weekend's wedding. I need to set up an appointment with a missionary friend of mine from Haiti and then tune my guitar for the prayer meeting I lead tonight at 7 in the upper room. I also have to check on a few things in our bylaws for an Elders meeting early tomorrow morning. I get to encourage the staff today and check on various projects that are going on. I'll do my callbacks and email this afternoon before six. All of that and prepare for the Father's day service at the church- I don't preach this weekend so it's not as intense as it usually is.
Phew!
I love my job! ;D
I (being a few hours ahead of you guys) spent the day avoiding (yes can you believe it) promotion.

Tell us more!
Ha ha, well i work as a production engineer but I've been doing the engineering side of things for around 14 years now and I'm tired of doing it. I studied computer stuff and a couple years of law so my mind is more office focused.
Well my company have decided to start shifting people around a bit as others are retiring. Well i have made it clear I'd like to represent the company and not do anymore engineering. Alas they seem to think I'm good at it but i don't want to do it anymore. Plus i can't stand the bloke who would be in charge of me, and he doesn't like me so not a ideal package. I've put other peoples names forward who i think would do a very good job in the hope they will leave me be. If they push me, then i will leave.
Ouch, slightly uncomfortable...but flattering in an odd sort of way I suppose.
If you're that good at something you don't want to do, persuade them to think how good you'd be if you got the chance to really engage with something you wanted to do!
Do you really want me to describe what we do at Taco Time?
OK!
lol. Mostly, I tend to be the person behind the cash register and do dishes and clean the garbage cans etc. So exciting I know. ;)
Maybe Fred Meyer will be more fun....

Work ?!! work ?? what's that ?? :)
Oh trust me i've tried. Trouble is (and i really do not mean to sound big headed) i am very good at what i do, and i've made a rod for my own back. It's a hard job that i do and messy (oil, coolant, grease and bits of metal sticking in you) so not many people want to take over form me (can you blame them). Now i know a few people would say how come you've been there so long, well i get paid pretty good (not brilliant but for a 'non trained' engineering job (eg, no certificates so in our great country that means i'm rubbish) and i like working for a English owned family run comapny (rare these days). Unfortunatley the two department heads don't like each other and so i'm stuck in the middle, one is reluctant to let me leave and do what i think i would be better at in sales and representation. It is nice to know that they think good of me in the way of running the machinery side of things but I've begun to feel the pain of engineering life (bad backs, tiredness and RSI)
Hey King whats Fred Meyer

Very interesting topic Rico—an interesting insight on everyone's real lives.
Everyday I'm working on something new for the marketing of Schlitterbahn Waterparks. I design everything from print materials (laying out designs for brochures, coupons, ads, business cards, and sometimes business proposals) to web sites (site layout and Flash design). I've even designed the look of our new costume character and helped theme a new uphill watercoaster ride.
Currently, I am working on designing a gigantic directional map that will be posted in one of our water parks. I'm using elements that I created for our resort brochure and web site, to jazz up the map. Here's a screen shot of the Photoshop files I have open. The map is overlapping the brochure, but it's only at 8% of it's actual size.

Hey King whats Fred Meyer
Oh right...not everyone here lives in the United States.....you'd think I would know that by now... :(
FredMeyer is essentially a large-chain Grocery Store that has Food, Home stuff, Apparal, Electronics, garden stuff, etc. A really big store with lots of stuff. Or as they like to say "The one-stop store." (Lies btw but whatever)
What is the definition of that kind of store?...oh right. its a SUPERMARKET
http://www.fredmeyer.com/homepage/index.htm (http://www.fredmeyer.com/homepage/index.htm)
Basically, its a version of Walmart. (ugh, I hate Walmart) but is better in most ways. Although to be honest...anything is better than Walmart.

It's not only non-US folks who have never heard of Fred Meyer... don't have any of those in SoCal. Thanks for explaining what they are.

Really?.....must be more local than I thought....I'll research into that. I know they are a pretty big chain though. Although they did get bought out by Kroger. Which most employees have said has "killed the fun with the company". /sigh

We don't have them down in Texas either. At least, not in my part of The Lone Star State.
None here in the Michigan midwest area that I know of. We have Meijer's, WalMart, Super KMarts, etc. for one-stop shopping places.
I have heard of Fred Meyer before, but we dont have them in Canada. But I get my western ABC/NBC/CBS channels from Spokane, so have seen the advertising when I watch those channels, though know with HD I tend to watch the eastern channels out of Detroit now.
Right so our version would be Asda (now owned by WalMart), Tesco (boo), Sainsbury's, Morrisons and the good old CoOp.

You forget Somerfield...well, in some parts of the country, anyway.
Anyone feel we're off topic now?

On a side note, we have a load of Fred Meyer store here in Spokane.

Independently unemployed. Company eliminated my position Monday. If I can't find anything in 2 months I will have to consider giving up the cats so I can work out-of-state. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Spent today creating illustrations and Flash movies for a student pilot training lesson.
I use a technical writer's step-by-step procedures list to demonstrate navigation and communication controls on a new Multi Function Display that is used in the next generation of jet airplane my worksite supports.
And I watched my boss muttering about the delivery schedule slipping back another month - sort of like the white Rabbit with his pocketwatch in the Alice in Wonderland story. :)
