Title: Babylon 5 anonymous
Post by: davekill on September 04, 2010, 04:07:27 PM
"My name is Dave, and I enjoy Babylon 5."
(Hi Dave... applause).

Now I don't think it's really a problem - I mean, it doesn't interfere with my work and I still get plenty of Trek.

I know...I know - most folks say;
"How can you settle for inferior special effects and low budget "cardboard" sets. The first year was really slow and after that, the stories never resolved at the end of each episode. They just went on and on."

I guess its the cast, I like the idea of an alien (Kosh) who is so different from us that there is barely a common point of reference for communication
(You could say the same for "The Companion" in TOS Metamorphosis)

And there is smart dialog by actors we know - Stephen Furst (forever Flounder) awesome :)

As well as Bill Mumy, Walter Koenig
and now that the DS9/B5 wars are over - dare I say, Majel Barrett Roddenberry.

I agree the CG space ships could use a major refit, but only because the show is so generous with FX shots and the battle strategies are logical and well executed.
(ala Battlestar Gallatica 2.0)

Centauri Attack Babylon 5 (full version) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDhF9sxDm7E#)

Originally conceived as a 10 year series - B5 had a good run with a smaller audience.
A near 4th year cancelation, hand-full of TV movies and a failed sequel.
But as Mr. Morden would say "What do you want?"

So in conclusion, a well balanced diet of both Klingon and Minbari may not be such a bone head idea.

It will steal your heart away...

Thanks for these videos.  Another great series that I still miss a lot.

Absolutely. I only got into it a few tears after it's run but then watched it straight through.

I always thought it was only a planned 5 year arc though?

Yup, 10 years - The Babylon 5 that might have been.

As often happens there where necessary revisions to accommodate changes in the cast.
Originally -  by the 5th season, Babylon 5 is destroyed prior to the Shadow Wars.
Capt. Sinclair reunites the Minbari race and together they stage the war against the Shadows from Babylon 4 after he retrieves it from the past.

As it turned out, I thought the Shadow Wars Ended awfully fast

Don't have time to watch a 5 year series?

TNT commissioned a TV movie "In The Beginning".
A re-telling of the Earth - Minbari war for their new B5 audience.

Easy to find online, YouTube has it in 10 parts

Wow, I'd never heard that one before.

The shadow war went by very fast but I thought that was more down to the fifth season cancellation before the other channel got involved.

I think the war ought to have stretched well into season five as 'originally' planned.
