I'm in the midst of upgrading the forum to version 2.0. So, hang in there for now. Hopefully this will all work out ok. :biggrin
have fun rico
Yeah - just bear with me to get it all looking ok. At least the main upgrade of files went ok and I didn't trash the forum! ;)
I was wondering what had happened... Lol
Getting closer now....
looks nice! i like the new collection of smileys, these in particular: :o ???
I think those Smileys have always been there.
P.S. Still working on fixing a few things like Spoiler Tags.
Great Work Rico, I know these types of things take a lot of time fixing all the plugins and other formatting
I'm digging it. Thanks for all your hard work Rico!
I love the new look.
Fixed....
Spoilers are back online!
Use the symbol below and put your "spoiler" in between the tags.

All change!
(I like it so far)
I like this new skin Rico! It's pretty classy!! The only thing is I can't find the link for "unread" posts. Is that still to be added?
Edit - Never mind! I found it. It's now at the top right instead of left. That will just take some getting used to.
Kevin
Its right at the top right of the page.
Keep in mind I'll still be adjusting things a bit more over the next few days, or week. There are still some features to get put back in place. But overall, things are coming together nicely.
I really like this new look, its all silky and smooth. Big Thumbs up. I did notice when i opened up a spoiler tag from a old link I had to highlight the words to read them. This must be loads of hard work to do this kind of change.

I see that now too Meds about spoiler tags text color (I think it's doing it on new spoiler tags too). I'll see if I can fix that somehow. Glad you like the new look!
Ok - got the spoiler text color changed now. Made it red since I thought that made it look all secret and special!
Why are you reading this? Go see "Super 8" now!
Ooooo red thats the cheeky colour lol ;)
The smileys are showing the same emotions as ones shown before, but these ones just look different. Just by a little :D
Funny that I never even knew that the spoiler tag was gone. Weird. :o
Odd.
I'm seeing Up/Down scroll bars alongside all posts with embedded emoticons!

Testing emoticons.... :usflag :worthy :flying :dalek :jawdrop

Looking good!
Sounds like it's been a little hard work porting the forum over, are there any benefits to you as an administrator upgrading or is it just for cosmetic reasons?

Yes, there are benefits. The design (inside the admin area) is cleaner, but also more robust. They've been working on SMF 2.0 for years now and it has a lot of "under the hood" tweaks that make it run better. Also, there are more available mods and things for it too. The "looks" is just a new theme I'm using and have tweaked a little. So yeah, lots of pluses.
I get the following Javascript error when I load up[ the forum on IE9, look like it has to do with the news fader:

Hmmm, that's an odd one. I'll turn the news fader off for now until I can work on that.

Aw nuts, Erm whatever obsolete version of IE we have at work. Will check tomorrow.

I fear change, and realize I'm outvoted, but I liked the way it was before.

Hey...nothing wrong with having an opposing view! Heck I'm quite usually on the opposite side in many topics. It just happens that in this case I'm not. ;D
Kevin
Just so you guys know, in order to do the upgrade to version 2.0, the look (theme) had to change. The old theme wasn't compatible with SMF 2. I tried to find something close, that had a nice look and I felt fit the forum. I'll be looking into other "themes" at some point, but for now I think this will be good.
It's clean and serviceable. What more could we ask for? ;)
Seems like a smooth upgrade so far, not that I'm all that advanced a user.
My favourite feature of SMF 2.0 is the transparent smartphone compatibility:
From your smartphone: http://www.treksinscifi.com/forum/index.php?;wap2 (http://www.treksinscifi.com/forum/index.php?;wap2)
Might even work on any number of less-featured phones, too.
Edit: fix smartphone link. *smack* bad geek...
Like it, a lot. Great job Rico
I like it too. Very movie-era :)
nice, smooth transition.Makes a change for an upgrade to do good. I do like the new theme.
I'm sure I'll get used to it. Being here practically every day you get to feel like it's like an old comfortable slipper or something similar.
not sure if anyone has mentioned this before but i haven't seen the search button since the forum upgrade.
Third item on the top menu.
ah there it is! ;D

I only just found it too (I was looking for the old text entry field in the top bar).
