Really liked the nod to the new Star Trek at the beginning :)

I loved the show but had it had one issue for me.
The Doctor said that the shark would die by the time they got it to the clouds, but he has a TARDIS. One he used to go and get the password to open the door and then they still had time to get chased by the shark. It's hard to believe that he could just toss the shark in the Tardis and get it to the clouds when there was so much time left.
Well there's always going to be problems with stories like this for example:
Why not evacuate the ship with the TARDIS? I know there was 4003 people on it but the TARDIS is huge on the inside. From watching the confidential it looks like the number was changed from 403 to 4003 to make this less obvious.

If he's going to alter the past wouldn't it be easier to just go back to the ship BEFORE they get caught up in the fog and prevent it?
The magic of this story and the brilliant acting and set design far outweighs any nitpicky issues with the plot for me.

You have a point there. I thought about that too but let it slide. I did love the story however and that only slightly took me out of the moment.

The Christmas episode was good but a big departure from the norm. I liked it (flaws aside) but could have done without the cheesy rude through the sky if I'm honest.

It uses an approach to time travel that I don't think I've seen The Doctor use before, nor does it quite for either of the classic two 'models of time travel' that I'm used to seeing.

So, am interesting departure in many ways but an enjoyable story all the better for the inclusion of Dumbledore... Er.... Michael Gambon.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

This is from my Blog about the new Who Christmas Special

First let me say that I'm a HUGE Doctor Who fan, I have loved every moment from when it first started re-airing in 2005 and I didn't think I could love it anymore then I already do.. but WOW..  I LOVED this Christmas Special and though it was one of the the best stories of all Who. Steven Moffat wrote my other favorite episodes of Who "Girl in the Fireplace" & "Blink" and he did it again with "The Christmas Carol". Previous Christmas specials have always been good, I've enjoyed them all but this one captured that special something that only Steven can capture. The acting was great, Matt Smith continued to impress me with his performance as The Doctor.. I swear he was born to play this character and he is fast becoming my favorite Doctor. Michael Gambon who I have enjoyed as Dumbledore did a fantastic job as the "Scrooge" of the story. All the actors were wonderful. One thing Steven can do is write characters.. all his characters are so engaging and you care for them instantly. But it truly was the story that stood out as something special. I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more. Moffat has a special talent of blending humor with sadness with just the right amounts of each. Though this story ends sadly it's still uplifting and only Moffat can write that to perfection. Another thing I enjoy about Moffat's writing are all the relationships that the Doctor make, be it with an young boy or an old man.. they are just magical and real. Oh one more thing.. I loved the fish and the CG was fantastic.. very whimsical.

I can't wait for the next season of Who.. it can't get here soon enough. I LOVE DOCTOR WHO!!!!

Awesome blog Kenny, and I agree with every word snout this special. Think I will  watch it again.

Yeah me too... told Harry not to delete it from the DVR... only thing about watching Who (btw this is the first I have watched it on BBCAmerica) are the commercials. Think I might try and find it elsewhere for a clean version.

I bet the commercials are very annoying! The reason for this is because being a BBC show Dr Who isn't filmed with commercials in mind as we don't have them on the BBC. Commercial stations always create their programming with natural 'commercial breaks' like pauses and fades to black during the show.
I'd hate to see where they shoe horned the ads into this. :(

Rico

There were some obvious bad spots for commercials in this one.  Hard to slip them in.

Yes, having listened to various series podcasts, I've learned a lot about how act breaks are actually written into the production. It must make the translation of BBC shows into other countries quite tricky.
