I just finished watching the mid-season finale...I am speechless.  I'm really not sure what to think at this point. For whatever reason I didn't like things before...out the window.  Everything paid off and I can't wait for the 2nd half of the series.

Yeah. Not a good all action episode though. I found myself a little disappointed.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Disappointed?!?!?!?  Are you kidding???  You must be joking - right??

THIS EPISODE WAS AMAZING!!!
Maybe it was because the focus of the first half was away from the Doctor or maybe it was because of the whole 'raising an army' thing, but it seemed quite out of character for the Doctor to behaving in this way to me.

I know that was part of the point of the episode (as River pointed out) but it just didn't play comfortably with me.

I didn't like the end of the last season either so perhaps I have a problem with some of Moffatt's big ideas.
I just loved it, but I can see your point Mike.
To me at least, they have been moving to make the Doctor more emotional ever since the restart back 2005.  He has been through a lot since then and I think it's changing him to a degree.

I loved how we didn't see the Doctor until a good ways into the episode.  It made it more interesting and suspenseful in a way.  It also allowed Rory to shine a bit more.  I loved how Amy is talking to her baby and you think she is talking about the Doctor but in fact she is talking about her husband.  I loved how the Doctor at first gets them all to play into his plan but in the end he gets duped again.  He is showing that he isn't perfect and he also has a bit of an ego that gets him and others into trouble at times.  Oh, and the part where he gets really angry was amazing to me.  He cares for these people and when others go messing with them - watch out.  I have to say Matt Smith was awesome in this one again. I can see why you feel a certain way about this Mike, I just am quite the opposite.  I loved it.  And the ending with River Song - just awesome!
Oh, the whole Rory story
I really enjoyed from the way he took on the vybermen in the beginning through to the way he drew his sword and faced down the monks with the others. Years as an Auton has done him no end of good!

BTW these appear to be 'proper' cybermen for the first (or maybe second) time, even though the costumes are the same as the alternate universe Cybus Industries cybermen.

The River Song revelation was very good too, particularly when you take the play on names into account and remember that she appeared before Amy Pond was ever dreamed of. Moffatt certainly plays a long game.
So I think it was the Doctor's arc I had specific problems with. I do see you points and intellectually agree with them, just something on the emotional lavel didn't click for me I guess.

The emotional stuff and bond the Doctor has with his friends is what keeps me coming back week after week.  It all works very well for me and I love it!  :)

It has been announced that Matt Smith will be returning as The Doctor for a third year of 14 episodes next year.

The news was confirmed by Executive Producer Steven Moffat, who also Tweeted this: "14 eps + Matt DEFINITELY. I've got a plan and I'm NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS. Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun."

No word yet on if Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will be returning with him, though it is said that they have already signed on to other projects.

Rico

Great news about Matt, but no Karen or Arthur maybe?  I hope they all come back.

I hope so too but given the trauma of the current storyline (for their characters) I can see it would provide a good reason for their characters to depart the TARDIS, at least for a while.
I think he's going to have young River ... maybe her mother's age as his companion.
No, the two parter has a follow up (last Sat here/next Sat US) that takes us out to the break.
