I liked it although I'm not keen on...
the uber-colourful Daleks. Something about them just screams 'plastic' at me and while they did strike me as more 'modern' than the 'proper' Daleks they ddn't look as durable.

Partly, I just don't see why the Daleks needed to be re-invented at all.

Also, have we ever heard of one of the progenitor devices before and I've forgotten or is this something they invented for this episode and just threw in a reference to it existing in the past?
I did think Matt Smith was as good as I could have wanted - I've obviously accepted him in the new role now - and Bill Patterson played a good role here too.

This is the first episode that my ten year old agreed to watch with me
largely to see a Dalek wandering around the Cabinet War Rooms saying "would you care for some tea?" and carrying box-files around.
I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

One thing I thought...
The Daleks always seemed kind of like the Borg to me.  They have to "reinvent" themselves so the Doctor has to come up with a new way to beat them each time.  The "Skittles Rainbow" Dalek colors I could do without, but I can see why they have to sort of evolve to pose a new threat.
Feels like I arrived late to the party but I waited until the first Matt smith episode premiered Saturday on BBC America here in the states. It's been tough not looking at all the spoilers here. Just wanted to say that I'm jumping on that Matt Smith bandwagon too. I really liked David Tennent, (he got me watching the show again) but I think Smith will take the character to new heights.

My take on the Daleks:
The multi-colored Daleks remind me of the Daleks from the 1965 movie "Dr. Who and the Daleks". Here's a link to the whole movie. Enjoy! http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi4137682713/
After watching, you'll agree the new Daleks look like these ones in the old movie.
Indeed I put that earlier that I think they are a homage to the Cushing films though they seem to resemble a fiat punto. I'd say this is the weakest story so far but hey ho. Not really convinced about the other universe scenario only because Mofatt has always said that he likes the idea that you the viewer could meet the Dr, and taking it out of our universe would kill that.

I said this about stargate universe as well (During the early episodes) this might have been the worst episodes so far, but it was still great compared to normal TV
Also I find it funny that even when the Daleks are offering Tea they still sound like they are about to murder you  :dalek
Some things to keep in mind. Serious Spoiler.
The obvious crack in every episode.
The word Myth which has appeared a few times eg on the laptop
The silence is falling
Pandoras box. Some intresting Greek myths going.
The Dr knows about the crack, first episode at the end ge looks at the monitor and you can see the crack there as he turns it off.
After three episodes I'm loving the fact Smith seems to be taking a lit of the 2nd Dr's traits along with the 4th Dr's anger.
What time was he in when he finally got Pond into the TARDIS? also I am thinking Myth Laptops are simply just their way of getting past copy rights
Here's something to think about.
the scientist, the one who made the daleks gets his left hand blown off, he's a robot, organic skin maybe, gets older becomes Davros. Davros only has one hand and created the Daleks. Ok so it changes time lord canon but I thought it was a fun idea lol
ooooh, I like that. Pity it does mess with canon though.

I came across this on another forum....a fan created Dalek called Dalek Storm Project.....now this would be a good design for the BBC to follow sometime!!

Could I drive to work in one of those? Or perhaps it could be used as a security out-rider of some sort. It's missing a sucker arm though so it could never carry the tea tray ;)

Blimey that is one uber cool dalek, would really like that in my garage.

I was briefly part of the Dalek Builders Guild. Usually they sit and basically walk it (like the usual ones) or if they are cool they have RC
