Superman Sweeps Saturns

Superman Returns led the Saturn Awards on May 10, taking home five awards, including best fantasy film and best director (Bryan Singer). On the TV side, NBC's hit superhero drama Heroes won three awards, including best network television series. Children of Men received the award for best science fiction film.

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films presented the 33rd Annual Saturn Awards in a ceremony in Universal City, Calif., hosted by Heroes star Greg Grunberg and Jeffrey Ross.

Superman Returns also won awards for best writing (Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty), actor (Brandon Routh) and music (John Ottman).

Heroes also garnered statuettes for two of its stars: Masi Oka (Hiro), for best supporting actor, and Hayden Panettiere (Claire), for best supporting actress.

Best Makeup: Todd Masters and Dan Rebert (Slither)

Best Special Effects: John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Charles Gibson and Allen Hall (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest)

Best Network Television Series: Heroes

Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series: Battlestar Galactica

Best Presentation on Television: The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines
