Kirk Casting

So here's a quick rundown of the cast as of right now:

If they use their real ages, Chris Pine is 26 and Anotn Yelchin is apparently only 18, so there is *almost* a 10 year gap. Maybe Kirk is just post academy (26 could be a reasonable age for that) and Chekhov is in his first or second year.

Well, it's actually a 12 year age difference between Kirk and Chekov.  Kirk was born in 2233 and Chekov in 2245.  Kirk was at Starfleet between 2250-2254, Chekov 2263-2267

So it's a pretty big gap.  Now I'm ok if they bend things a bit but I'm curious on how they are going to do that.
