Ok, let's discuss how this book ends. I am almost finished, and gotta say I am not so happy with how this book is ending. I don't know what I expected when I started it, but this certainly isn't it. Hopefully I will get some plesant surprises before it's all over.

I finished it and like I have said before I kind of feel they took the easy route.  I thought we would learn a bit more on the construction of the Death Star, who designed it, more details, etc.  The whole last several chapters just kind of retelling "A New Hope" seemed kind of cheap to me at least.  I'm glad some of the people we get to know make it off the station but I feel the book could of been much more.  A bit disappointed overall.

One thing I found interesting was that the gunny's hesitation to destory another world was the thing that ended up giving Luke the time to destroy the station.

I finished the last few chapters, and my opinion hasn't changed. There were a couple of interesting points, such as the one billybob pointed out, but I was left feeling ....well ...bleh.

It really felt like that didn't have a good idea on how to end the book, so they went with the flow into episode 4. I really would have like to have more of the story of Tarkin, and his political moves, etc. There is just so much more they could have written about.

Oh well, the book was rather entertaining, I just hated how they ended it.

Yeah overall I think the best point of the book was finding out more about Tarkin and Vader's thoughts and motivations. Those were by far the most interesting parts.

I was late on Finishing this book, but have to agree with the other comments here, that the ending was disappointing. The last part of the book was basically a retelling of a new hope, with some of the characters earlier thrown in. I guess with these books, things all seem coincidental, Gunny Hesitates allowing Luke to blow up the Death Star, A surface explosion allows the Dr to escape, etc etc etc. The first half of the book was pretty good, and had some good stories going. If they were going to retell parts from a New Hope, I wish they would have added more into what Vader and Tarkin where thinking, as well some of the other officers, instead of exactly what we had seen in the movie pretty much word for word.
