Firrak Remor, personal history:

Remor was caught on Romulus when the joint Tal'Shiar and Obsidian Order fleet was destroyed in the Gamma Quadrant. Originally sent as an expert on biological, chemical, and technological sabotage, he worked with Tal'Shiar agents to keep the joint operation clear of prying eyes and ears. In his third month of work on Romulus, he noticed something odd about one of the Romulans heading the mission. After close but discreet observation, he came to the conclusion that the Tal'Shiar Leader was a shapeshifter. It was then that everything changed for him. He saw it all so clearly: the destruction of the fleet, the capitulation of the Cardassian Union to the Dominion, the war, and the eventual defeat of the Dominion. In the process, Cardassia would be decimated, but there was nothing he or anyone else could do about it. If he showed all his cards now, he would certainly be eliminated by another Dominion spy, and the mission would still fail. So, as any good spy in his position would do, he decided to save himself--to walk away, because he knew when to quit. But he didn't quit. Not exactly.

As he and two Romulan Tal'Shiar operatives flew across Romulus in a cloaked shuttle, the mechanism that regulated the ship's forced quantum singularity inexplicably sputtered and then failed. A bright orange streak blazed across the gray Romulan sky and debris rained down into a wooded area outside a suburb of the capitol city. After a search of the area, rescuers found a slightly singed but more-or-less intact Romulan by the burning husk that was the cockpit. The other Romulan was dead and the Cardassian--or what must have been the Cardassian--had been vaporized when the console in front of him exploded. At least, that's what the slightly damaged flight recorder had shown. Odd, that an Obsidian Order sabotage expert should just happen to die in a shuttle accident. Operatives from both sides took statements from the surviving officer, a Romulan named Eman Kovic. They inspected the shuttle wreckage, and paid close attention to the flight recorder, looking for signs of tampering. These were spies they were dealing with, even if they were all on the same side. They found no evidence of tampering or of sabotage within the shuttle itself. This didn't mean there wasn't any, but if the Order and the Tal'Shiar's combined efforts couldn't find anything, the odds that there was anything to find were infinitesimal. Because of his injuries and perhaps because of his involvement in the crash, Kovic would not join the invasion fleet. Instead, he received orders to stay on Romulus and report to the remaining Tal'Shiar commander for further instructions. They would see him when they got back.

They never did, however, and Firrak Remor lived for years as a Romulan agent until the Empire and the Federation-Klingon alliance signed a treaty to fight the Dominion. Just as Section 31 and Klingon Intelligence had no doubt sent spies into their own allies' ranks, the Tal'Shiar sent Kovic (Remor) into Federation ranks, disguised as a Vulcan engineer. After the war, Remor's cover's cover identity went into retirement as a civilian. That is, until he got a communication from the Tal'Shiar. Apparently, the Vulcans and elements of the Romulan government were seriously talking about unification. His services would be required once again.

His first orders:
- Report to the USS Tiberius
- Book passage as a civilian
- Opportunities will present themselves (in spy speak, Remor knew, this meant "improvise")

Now that the war was over, all Remor really wanted to do was return to Cardassia and help his people rebuild. He had heard rumors that another former Order agent had returned from exile. Maybe they could work together to bring their world up from the ashes.

OOOO....so if I get this right, this guy would be a spy on the ship.  Must be fun with all the telepaths.

Otherwise, I'm liking this character.

OCC:
There was some episode of DS9 in which someone mentioned Cardassian children being put into mind training programs. There was also one in which Dukat resisted the mind meld. Given that Dukat was only trained by the military and could resist basic telepathy, I might be able to explain that Remor, with his Order training, has a higher level of telepathic resistance, or is able to send out false readings.

If that's too far out there, someone let me know.

I like the concept. Yeah, it's going to be a little rough with the various level of telepathic ability, but at the same time, there are a few things going for him that must be considered. Super secret missions tend to make things stressful and that can interfere with the skills of lesser telepaths.

Great idea ducks. I'll create you and the other new recruits RPG character banners next week. (see the bottom of this post for an example of a banner)

Ok, I do actually remeber that episode where it was explained that dukat was "immune" to telepathic readings.

Great character, but gl avoiding mine :)

Agent Remor: The Beginning

"Welcome to the Obsidian Order, Firrak Remor," said the voice from behind the bright light. Remor could barely lift his head, and when he finally did, he squinted, trying to see the source of the familiar voice. It had been a test, he realized. And he hadn't broken. They had broken at least four of his bones, applied six different types of mental probes and scanners, stripped him naked, and starved him for weeks, but he hadn't broken. He should have been angry, should have wanted revenge for the suffering they put him through, but Remor had found clarity.

"Thank you," he mumbled through a broken jaw. The spotlight shut off and the standard lighting illuminated the room, and for the first time, Remor saw the man he only knew as Tain. A woman, obviously an Order agent, moved behind him and removed his shackles. Then with quick precision, she injected him with a tranquilizer.

He woke up in a military hospital and found the woman standing over him. His jaw and other broken bones had been healed. How long had he been out? "Welcome back," she said.

"Thank you," he said, adjusting to a slight stiffness in his jaw.

"Your clothes are on that chair," she said, indicating said chair with a nod. "I'll meet you in the lobby."

Clothed and walking on stiff legs, Remor found his way to the lobby, met up with his contact, and followed her outside. Ahh, he thought. The hot Cardassian sun. After being cooped up in a cold interrogation chamber for a month and a half, the heat was invigorating.

"We have a mission for you," the female operative said after a while. She handed him a data pad. "Memorize it, then destroy it."

"Don't I need some kind of training?" he asked.

"Yes," she said, and then walked away.

Remor returned to his apartment in the southeast quadrant of Lakarian City. He fished around in the clothes they had provided him and found that they had left him a good amount of latinum—not enough to live in luxury, but certainly enough to feed and clothe himself for a while. He popped a tiny slip of the currency into the replicator. "Fish juice, hot. And three desert vulture's eggs, poached with a side of yamok sauce," he told the machine. Normally, he liked his food, especially yamok sauce, unreplicated, but everything but the kanar had spoiled and he thought it wise not to read his mission orders in a crowded restaurant.

Taking his food to the couch, he sat down and began to eat and read. Immediately on page one was a picture of a Bajoran woman with long red hair. Apparently this was an Order operative who had failed in her mission. She was supposed to have replaced someone in a terrorist cell, but she had failed to kill the original person and was on the run from the cell, which had discovered her real intentions almost immediately. The file noted that she had most likely changed her appearance more than once.

His orders, however, did not involve this operative or any instructions to go to Bajor. At the end of the file, the pad read, "Report to Psychological Training ASAP."

Remor shrugged, read over the file and orders once more for memorization, put the pad on the floor, and then went to the closet where he kept his disruptor pistol. Aiming his golden gun at the pad, he pulled the trigger.

Okay, here is a quick question for the series bible some of us are putting together:

What is the name of his vulcan cover ID?

3 Ducks in a Man Costume

Ah. I hadn't revealed that, had I?

I was thinking of keeping it a secret simply so I would be the odd Vulcan, but seeing as how I've actually been logged onto the ship and been talking extensively with Brex, my Vulcan cover should have an accessible name.

Let's see . . . how about . . . Ramore Farock.

Sometimes Cardassian humor escapes me, but consider it Remor's inside joke. Of course, no one alive really knows his real Cardassian name, which is why he finds it so amusing.

3 Ducks in a Man Costume

[Readers, keep in mind that these back stories are not coming chronologically, primarily because people need to know different aspects of my character at different times. Also, because none of the other characters know my character's true name, please refer to him by his Vulcan cover name, Remore Farock. Once he gets uncovered as a Romulan, then it will change to Eman Kovic, but that won't happen for a while.]

Remor, newly minted as a Vulcan engineer, stepped aboard Deep Space Nine for the first time on stardate 52140.5. His instructions from his operators in the Tal'Shiar had been vague at best. From what he could tell, he had to hang around and integrate himself into Federation society, keeping note of important developments. At some point, a contact would send him into action, but the idea was to gain the absolute trust of those around him.

Remor knew he was being watched from the moment he crossed the Romulan border. The Tal'Shiar had to make sure that he didn't integrate too well into Federation society. Unfortunately, Remor could not figure out who it was, and launching his own investigation would only be a waste of time because it would just send the other spy into hiding. Of course, he suspected everyone at first: his crewmates, the friendly bartender at the Utopia Planetia shipyards, and even his neighbors on Earth after he had retired early from Starfleet. For some reason, there were always a few recurring characters, but they were usually the friends he had made. There was the hot-tempered Bolian, who was on his Parisi Squares team. There was the human female with whom he discussed and debated politics every Saturday morning. There was the proprietor of the local theatre, where he occasionally read his poetry. Still, there were others who appeared less often, and they made him uneasy.

When the Tal'Shiar finally contacted him and he had to tell his friends he would be leaving for an extended journey, they all expressed genuine sentiment. The Bolian became briefly furious; they had just secured an historic victory over Starfleet Academy's Parisi Squares team. "We can't lose you now!" the Bolian had almost yelled. "We just destroyed those punks at the Academy! We're on a roll!" Remor promised to write from wherever he ended up. The Bolian hugged him while he stood there stiffly, the best Vulcan he could be.

Although Remor had heard of the USS Tiberius and its adventures, the Tal'Shiar had learned something more and transmitted that information to him. At once, he contacted the one-armed Ferengi and bought the information he would need for the mission, including the information that the Tal'Shiar operators had neglected to gather. The chaos on Romulus was making them sloppy, which was something that concerned him because it might cost him his life. On the other hand, it might make the person watching him easier to spot.

He made a mental note that if he were to recognize anyone from Earth or his previous postings aboard the Tiberius, they would most certainly be the watcher.
