Stargate: Ark Debuts In March

Stargate: The Ark of Truth, a feature-length movie that continues the story of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate SG-1, debuts on DVD March 11 from MGM Home Entertainment.

The film concludes the Ori story arc of seasons nine and 10 of SG-1 and picks up after "Unending," the series finale. The Ark of Truth stars Amanda Tapping, Beau Bridges, Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, Christopher Judge and Claudia Black.

The story centers on SG-1 as it searches for an ancient weapon that could help it defeat the sinister Ori. Traveling to a distant galaxy aboard the Odyssey, the team finds itself fighting two powerful enemies.

The DVD bonus materials will include feature-length audio commentary by writer, director and producer Robert C. Cooper, actor Christopher Judge and director of photography Peter Woeste, as well as the featurette Stargate SG-1: The Road Taken: Prelude to The Ark of Truth. The DVD will carry a suggested retail price of $26.98.

I'm looking forward to this also! It seems like the retail price is a little pricey for a direct to DVD release but I'll buy it anyway and I'm sure that's what the execs at MGM are hoping for.

Here's the final artwork on this. Looks pretty nice! Interesting that they don't use SG-1 in the title. I guess hoping to catch folks that don't follow the series and have seen the original movie.

"Stargate: The Ark of Truth" on DVD

Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell, Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Vala Mal Doran and Tealc, all members of the elite Stargate SG-1 team, travel to the ruins of Dakara in hopes of finding the fabled Ark of Truth.

This exciting new DVD film that continues the 10-year saga of Stargate SG-1 becomes available on March 11, 2008, but you can pre-order your copy now from Amazon.com. While on the site check out a video clip from "The Ark of Truth."

The SG-1 team searches for an ancient weapon which could help them defeat the Ori, and discover it may be in the Ori's own home galaxy. As the Ori prepare to send ships through to the Milky Way to attack Earth, SG-1 travels to the Ori galaxy aboard the Odyssey. The International Oversight committee has their own plans and SG-1 finds themselves in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.

"Stargate: The Ark of Truth" stars Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Claudia Black, Christopher Judge, Beau Bridges and Morena Baccarin.

I actually really liked this film. It was suspenseful and well done overall. It was not really on the level of something like a Star Trek movie but was more like a big budget TV episode/movie. The sfx were very well done but still many scenes looked like matte paintings, because they were, but I didn't really allow it to bother me too much. I think they did a sufficient job in giving closure to the Ori arc to where we can say "it's finally over". There was a nice segue at the end to lead off to the next film which was nice too. If they continue to make the direct to DVD films it will be interesting to see what direction they move in now that all major threats have been vanquished.

SPOILER ALERT.. Don't read if you haven't watched this movie yet.

We finally watched the whole movie.  It was excellent.  You could tell they had a bigger budget, very nice.

I enjoyed seeing the team again.  Tealc just rocks.  You know?

I also thought that Sam was much better on SG1, not sure about her on Atlantis, she just doesn't fit in as nice.

Anyway, cool special effects, finally an end to the whole ORI thingymabobber.  That was good.  Did anyone catch the cool promo for the game?
