Character History:

Hailing from a long line of engineers, Akihabara graduated from Starfleet Academy with the intention of continuing the family tradition. This plan was changed by a freak accident in the engine room of his first starship posting. 

After taking heavy fire from Cardassian Raiders during the last days of the Dominion war, Lt. Otak's ship experienced a reactor coolant leak.  While attempting to halt the leak and keep his ship in the fight, his right arm came into contact with the coolant.  His crewmates managed to pull him out of the engine room, saving his life.  Unfortunately, the same could not be said for his arm. 

After recovering from his injury, Otak swore never to step foot in the engine room of another starship.  He instead channeled his talents towards the tactical department, quickly establishing himself as a technical wizard in the field of phaser mechanics.
