Just finished. Great show. I love Vartok's segment. I don't know what it is about the John Williams superman theme, but it always gives me chills.

Right before you brought up Hollywoodland I was thinking "I wonder if he'll talk about Hollywoodland?". Coincidentally I just saw it last week. I've seen everything up to Lois and Clark, for some reason I never really go into Smallville. I've really enjoyed the episodes I've seen and one day the wife and I need to sit down and start from season 1.

Great show Rico. Keep it up!

Thanks guys!  I really appreciate the nice comments.  Feel free to copy paste your comments on the main web page under the podcast notes for this week.  Trying to get more comments there for people to see who drop by for the first time.

Super podcast Rico.  Pun intended.  You can tell how much you love the Superman mythos.  I love it when your passion for a particular movie or series comes through.  NICE!  Anyway, great elements.  I really enjoyed Vartoks stuff as well as Meds story about wearing the outfit under his clothes and seeing Superman two.  Man, I just loved that movie.  Picked up the directors cut awhile back, and it was way cool.  GREAT PODCAST MY FRIEND!  Looking forward to Night Terrors next week.  ooooo... scary!

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Really great show, Rico. I was meaning to send in an audio contribution regarding Superman The Movie. I was in the Junior High when it came out. At the time, two of my friends were Bill and Ted Vincent. Their father, Fay Vincent, was the CEO of Columbia Pictures. we saw Superman in a private screening room in NYC on Bill and Ted's B-Day (they are twins). It was so cool! I loved that movie, love the music, loved Christopher Reed. He lived about 10 min. from my Dad's home in CT up in Bedford, NY. He and Dana were very involved in not only the spinal research but the local community as well. His death and then Dana'a death were really tragic.

Great show Rico. I wish I had sent a comment, but I've been so busy lately at work and with family functions. I'm not a huge super hero fan, but I always loved Superman and Supergirl (had the underoos!). I'm the same age as Meds (I liked your comments Hawkeye) and I too recall seeing the films in the theater as a little kid. I remember it being a big deal... all my cousins came with us to see each of the Superman films.  The later movies didn't bother me as much because I liked the silliness... not sure I could sit through them now.

I was in high school when Lois and Clark came out and I was head over heals in love with Dean Cane until I met David a year later then I was like, "Dean who?"  That was a great show and I wish it hadn't died out like it did.

I really enjoyed your commentary Rico and I loved Vartok's music segment. Thank you. :)

Just started listening this morning, so only about 8 minutes in.

I'm the hardcore Star Trek fan you're referring to.  But unlike some, I DO think they can make a TOS movie with new actors.  I just don't think the casting was the best in this case.  But I am still holding out for a good story - cuz that's what it's about above all else.  :)

Will come back & talk about Superman after I hear the whole podcast.  Some people knock Superman for being the wimpiest of the super heroes, but for me, I see him as the most believable story-wise and have enjoyed his adventures since before the '78 movie.

Great job Rico. Listened to it today at work.

Just curious if you had ever taken a listen to the old radio show?

Im an old time radio collector( programs, not actual radios  :) )

Meds

Great podcast Rico really enjoyed this and i think everyone would agree i would have loved you to have talked for three hours on this subject. Thanks for playing my comments (thanks Jen). I really enjoyed Supergirl (i did and do have a crush on Helen Slater) and i collect the new SG comics. Didn't watch Superboy at all and i liked the first seasons of Lois and Clark. Smallville still rocks though it is time he started wearing glasses.

Rico

I have heard a few of the old radio shows, but not many.  And Meds I was collecting and reading Supergirl but dropped it off my weekly buy list.  Just was getting too many titles.

Fantastic show, Rico.  I never really could get into the Supes comics, but the first two Reeves Films had almost as big an impact on my childhood as Star Wars.  Thanks for the insightful and entertaining show.  It helped remind me of everything I love about the Superman franchise.   :)

Yeah great show. It reminded me that I used to watch reruns of the old Superman series with George Reeves. Something about those old shows that I used to love when I was a kid. (And I'm only 34 now!) Flash Gordon was great too. I think a lot of today's kids disregard these old shows because they are black and white but a lot of them beat some current shows hands down!

The superman movies were a staple over here in the UK on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and they just HAD to be watched every time!

I was never a HUGE DC comic fan, possibly because I was a MASSIVE Marvel fan and I just could not afford to let myself get into DC as well. There were too may Marvel comics to spend my allowance on....

Smallville is a fantastic take on the Superman universe and I have always been hooked on it.. It is a brilliant concept  and it looks like they are taking it on an interesting direction now but I do agree we need to move on a bit now. Just why does Clark not fly yet? He knows it is technically possible.... LOL If there series ends this year I want to see SUPERMAN flying in COSTUME! I suspect it may be a different costume all together (no capes!) but that's cool as it would fit with this 'alternate' history very well.

Anyway Rico, just wanted to say thanks once again for the effort you put in. This community is great and a nice little added extra and relief from the stresses of everyday life. I look forward to coming here as often as I can.

Rico

Glad everyone enjoyed this special show so much.  Look for more topics similar to this in the future on the podcast.

Today is the 30th Anniversary of the first "Superman" film with Christopher Reeve.  Came out back in 1978 - and I was there!
