Haven't seen it, but I plan to now. Thanks!

Well, there WERE some bad parts to Nemesis.  (specifically, a certain gaping plot hole or five with regard to Spiner's character)

It wasn't ALL bad, but there were enough bad parts to make Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace look tame in comparison.

Only saving grace of that movie: The briefest of appearances by Riker and Troi.

Love Star Trek TOS & TNG (never really got into DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise).  Also love Star Wars (everything save for the prequels...), and Indiana Jones, and ElfQuest, basically anything remotely SF or fantasy is my bag, tho I tend more towards SF than I do fantasy.

...and the overdone contrivance of both Data and Picard having doppelgangers.

LOL!

Perhaps that cast really was too big.

I saw Nemesis twice, back to back the day it released in theaters, once or twice when it came on Showtime, then twice again when the special edition DVD came out, for the commentary track.

One thing I didn't like about the movie was when Worf jumped and squealed like a little girl when the robotic hand popped out of the sand and grabbed his leg.  Didn't feel very warrior-like to me.  And not to rehash something that has been talked to death, but I really think that they could have come up with a way to keep Data around instead of killing him off.  A simple "aging" program installed with the explanation that it would make Data's close friends more comfortable to see him age normally along with them would have been enough to make me believe it.

I do believe that this account belongs to the real Brent Spiner. Because Wil Wheaton says so on his blog, and I trust him.

Don't forget Brent Spiner is a comedian, and his humor is described by some as blunt, dark and sarcastic.
He isn't on twitter to promote himself so you don't have the usual filtered banal and unoffensive things a press agency would publish, he's obviously there because he has fun to interact with (the darker side of) his audience and likes to reflect the worst things he receives back.
Don't take it seriously, and if you don't share his sense of humor don't read it.

If you don't know what I mean watch this, I think his appearance corresponds well with his tweets (I bet Spiner was asked the same question about how they reattached "his" head by some fans):
Brent Spiner asks Patrick Stewart convention questions

One last thing about Nemesis: A review recently opened my eyes, it does rip off the story of Wrath of Khan. And some elements from Insurrection. Bad writing is bad.
Spiner probably got lots of comments about this film and he probably noticed it wasn't a very good film. Why should he deny this?

I highly recommend the review of RedLetterMedia, it's really good, but he reviews in character, and this character is very dark, might not be your taste. (He reviews the TNG films and the Star Wars prequels, and they made me aware of some things I didn't notice on a conscious levels. It's just great when he asks some people about the characters of the prequels, another highlight is my opinion the analysis of the "making of" footage from the prequels.)

Is this the guy that did the 70 minute review of Phantom Menace?  I'm in the middle of watching that right now actually.  I'll have to check out his Star Trek reviews.

Yes, that's the one! :)
It's easier to understand some of his running gags and the back story of his character when you start with Generations, that was only a three parter. Hope you like it?

I really liked the Phantom Menace one, although the weird flashes of images where you're supposed to find humor in kidnapping and abusing women is absolutely sure to bother some of the folks here.  While I found that part uneccessary, I could see he was just trying (failing) at being funny.  As weird as those parts are, his insight and humor about the movie itself makes the Phantom Menace review really worth watching.  Looking forward to checking out the Star Trek ones, and I see he just did an Attack of the Clones 9 parter.

I agree, the kidnapping and abusing women parts is something I tend to skip when I re-watch it. It's just not that interesting but fits his made-up character.
If you want you can read some media critique in it?

Thanks for noting, I thought I needed a bit more color.
I was considering sepia, but it clashes with the forum's gray color scheme. I also decided to rip off pay homage to our esteemed bard, I can't begin to grasp how I ever thought making a picture without a Picard in the background was a good idea. I'm so glad those dark times lay now behind me. ;)

I think I finally got it, it should have been obvious. Did you know Brent Spiner is a Jew? I didn't, but him being a comedian should have been my first clue. It's Jewish humor, "verbal, self-deprecating and often anecdotal humour", or at least heavily influenced by it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_humour

QuoteIn fact, Jewish humor does not even have to be implicitly about Jews. Groucho Marx's famous quip that he would never join a club whose standards were so low as to accept someone like himself, in which the clash of self-deprecation and self-esteem reaches the nth degree, could be attributed not only to a member of any minority group but to anyone at all who feels rejected by society. Although many Jewish jokes can be told only about Jews, most Jewish jokes have a universal aspect.
QuoteBy laughing at the absurdities and cruelties of life, Jews draw much of the sting from them. ... What makes the Jew such an irrepressible jester? What gives so much of Jewish humor its ruefulness? The answer is: the Jews are a very ancient people, and they have navigated all the seven seas of misery since they became Pharaoh's bondsmen in Egypt.

No wonder so many people don't get it.

QuoteRabbi Altmann and his secretary were sitting in a coffeehouse  in Berlin in 1935. "Herr Altmann," said his secretary, "I notice you're reading Der Stürmer! I can't understand why. A Nazi libel sheet! Are you some kind of masochist, or, God forbid, a self-hating Jew?"
"On the contrary, Frau Epstein. When I used to read the Jewish papers, all I learned about were pogroms, riots in Palestine, and assimilation in America. But now that I read Der Stürmer, I see so much more: that the Jews control all the banks, that we dominate in the arts, and that we're on the verge of taking over the entire world. You know – it makes me feel a whole lot better!"

Not much Jewish humor in Germany, not anymore, and that's a damn shame to say the least.
