NBC has officially given a pilot order for 17th Precinct, Moore's newest series described as "an adult Harry Potter." Deadline reports that the show is "an ensemble cop drama with supernatural elements," taking place in the mystical town of Excelsior where science takes a backseat to magic. John Locke would be pleased.

Michael Rymer's going from Cylons to sorcery: the "Battlestar Galactica" producer-director gave ComingSoon.net the exclusive scoop on reteaming with "BSG" creator Ron Moore to helm the pilot of a new supernatural police procedural series.

"I'm actually about to start directing a pilot that's written by Ron Moore called '17th Precinct,'" Rymer told us at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. "It's for NBC and we're in the process of casting it right now. It's bigger than 'Ben Hur,' very wild. It's a procedural set in a world where science is replaced by magic."

"There's a lot of FX work," explained Rymer. "I'm very excited because it's going to be a real challenge to figure out how to explain why something is magical and not technological. There are some real challenges, but this is a very good script. It's Ron's main forte, which was very well demonstrated by 'Battlestar Galactica.' This is a great storyteller and just a lot of creative characters. We've had wonderful characters. So you get great actors and the writers will see what the actors are doing and they'd feed off of each other and there was this fantastic dialectic going on."

Rymer says there are no plans yet for him to direct any episodes of the upcoming sequel series "Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome," but he considers his stint on "BSG" a high point in his career.

"I was the pilot director and a producing director," he said. "I directed about 25 of the episodes over the course of the season. That was sort of the first time in my directing career where I went, 'This is how it's supposed to be. Everyone gets on, is respectful, collaborative.' It just worked. Everybody fed off of everybody else in a very productive way."

Note to Edward James Olmos: keep your phone line open...

NBC has announced that yet another Battlestar Galactica alumnus will star in 17th Precinct, a fall pilot produced by the same man responsible for that SyFy smash: Ron Moore.

Battlestar Galactica StarsJamie Bamber Pic

With James Callis and Jamie Bamber already on board, we can confirm that Tricia Helfer has landed a role on this futuristic series, which revolves around police officers in the fictional, supernatural-filled town of Excelsior.

Helfer, most recently seen on an episode of No Ordinary Family, will portray Morgana, the magical equivalent of a coroner, someone who is an expert at dealing with potions and and spells.

Kristin Kreuk will guest star in 17th Precinct, a new NBC pilot - and if the show gets picked up, she may land a recurring role!

Here's a rundown of the show from TVLine: "Set in the fictional town of Excelsior, where magic and supernatural elements rule over science, 17th Precinct revolves around the lawmen at the local cop shop. In addition to [Jamie] Bamber, the cast features two other Battlestar Galactica regulars: James Callis (playing a homicide detective) and Tricia Helfer (as Morgana the necromancer aka the magical equivalent of a coroner)."

1st cast pic from 17th Precinct set is a frakkin' BSG reunion

It's an exciting Battlestar Galactica reunion from the set of Ron Moore's upcoming supernatural drama 17th Precinct in a new pic tweeted by none other than Number Six herself, Tricia Helfer.

We were already thrilled about our favorite BSG actors getting back together on Moore's 17th Precinct, so our squee levels were off the charts when Helfer tweeted a pic of herself and her co-stars from the set yesterday.

Standing shoulder to shoulder again, Helfer, James (Gaius "frakkin'" Baltar) Callis and Jamie (Lee Adama) Bamber took the time to reach out to their fans. Thanks, guys!

We're sort of digging Tricia Helfer's brunette locks, and Callis seems rather snug between the statuesque beauty and Jamie Bamber, don't you think?
