In a great moment of life imitating art, Nike released a viral video late last night featuring a room full of "Air Mags" — real-life versions of the power-lace-equipped hi-tops from Back To The Future II. The video has since sparked a wave of hype and speculation. In the hours since, a wealth of information has been uncovered since, including an invitation from the CEO of Nike for a release party. Apparently, it's finally happening, and the shoes will go on sale tomorrow.

Despite the hype, this is not Nike's first attempt at making special-edition Back To The Future shoes. There have been about six other pairs modeled after Marty McFly's kicks. Although each one has resembled the shoe in color scheme and design, none has ever gone as far into detail as this latest pair.

Many have speculated about Nike's intentions to create the shoe after the corporation filed a patent last year for sneakers equipped with an electronic fastening system. Schematics included in the patent show the exact design from the film, complete with LED lights and a charging base modeled after the cylindrical Nike bag seen in the movie Granted. Either way, the excitement has been building ever since, and it's come to a head following this morning's video. While most special-edition Nikes sell in the $70-$100 range, many are anticipating a price tag closer to $1,000 due to the onboard equipment, as well as the shoes' high collectibility.

Now if we could only get Mattel to build a hoverboard.
