I thought this might be fun. Find a song you like (original version) and then find a cover version that you think is either a great tribute or even a dire version.
I'm starting by posting up Pink Floyds Comfortably Numb

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

And the cover version which I think is pretty good is done by The Scissor Sisters

I love cover versions of songs. From Guns & Roses Live And Let Die to Weird Al's parody/covers. I've got the Placebo covers album and generally go out of my way to find a good cover song.

I was going to post a Richard Cheese Live Lounge version of a song, but most have profanity and....well, It's a bit easy that.

But one of my favourites is this...

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney & Wings

Paul McCartney- Band on the Run

And a really good cover that can be found on the "BBC Radio One: established 1967" compilation album. This was to celebrate 40 years of BBC Radio One. They got a current artist or group to perform a song from a given year. so 40 artists, each doing a single song cover. One cover per year from 1967 to 2007 (Does that make sense...?)

Anyway, Band On the run was very successfully covered by the Foo Fighters. And I think I prefer it to the original....just! It's a bit heavier and more modern sounding than the original

Foo Fighters.. Band On The Run (cover)

I have also heard the Foo Fighters cover The Arcade Fires "Keep The Car Running".... I love both their version and the original!! Although the original wins everytime in that battle....The whole NEON BIBLE album by The Arcade Fire is awesome....

Stuff it! I'm posting that one too....ENJOY!! :)

I really enjoy both versions of Meds song. Although Pink Floyd is by far the better. But I like the Scissor Sisters version as it sounds like a totally different song. It wasn't until somebody pointed it out that I realised...

Turtlesrock's songs are good examples of a decent cover. I'm not as big a Pixie's fan as some people assume I would be. I do enjoy their music, but don't hold them with such high regard as some. For me, the female vocal seems to fit the song better and is more pleasing to the ear. I would say I prfer the cover in this case.

Another favourite cover for me is of Motorhead's Ace Of Spades.

Incidently, this Motorhead performance is from "The Young Ones" TV show for those who listened to the Rick Mayall and Ade Edmonson edition of the Waffle On Podcast.

Although more of a novelty act, I am a huge fan of Hayseed Dixie. They tour the uni's over here regularly and I keep threatening to go see them....but haven't yet. This is one of my favourite covers by Hayseed Dixie (a hill billy ACDC tribute act). There's just something about this band. They ooze musical talent and give very recognisable and very enjoyable covers of great songs. I really do like this band....and often get funny looks for driving by with the stereo up too loud and the windows down blasting banjo music!!

That Ace of Spades cover was great, had me laughing. I was playing cards with some Friends last weekend, and my Friend always brings out his phone and plays Ace of Spades on it as a bit of a joke, since he does it everytime we play cards, I will have to mention this version to him

I really like Killed by Death By Motorhead, always found it humorous and heavy
Motorhead - Killed By Death

Saw that a female bad did a cover of it as well
Crucified Barbara - Killed By Death (Motörhead Cover)

Another song I like was Cars by Gary Numan
Gary Numan - Cars HQ

A Band called Fear Factory did a cover with Gary and sort of a cool Sci-Fi Video as well. It is a bit heavier but a nice mix of the Original

Hayssed Dixie have whole albums of covers. Mostly AC/DC, but pretty much anything goes. Mostly, but not exclusively, metal or rock songs. Their version of Walk This Way is really good. Most of the better ones can be heard on You Tube. I own 3 of their albums. One of their uncles also composed the Dueling Banjo's theme which they did a version of. That is just simply awesome....

I'd not heard the Kill By Death cover before. Quite a good version. I really liked that. As for the Gary Numan one. I love both Gary Numan and Fear Factory, so that song has always been a favourite. Although there's something about the original that just makes it stand out for me.

My wife still thinks "It's My Life" was written by Gwen Stafani instead of Talk Talk. :) I always liked the song "Our Lips are Sealed" as performed bu the Go-Go's and them covered by Fun Boy Three.
