Trek Time Travel Idea

Sometimes at work I have a lot of time to think, I know, dangerous!!! Anyway, My thought was........

In TNG, on the wall of the obsevation lounge there was no Enterprise NX-01. What if, in the Timeline, the first NX wasn't named Enterprise. When the Enterprise E went back in time in First Contact, Troi told Zephram Cochrane "That's our ship, the Enterprise." If that stuck with him, And some how made it through the years. That could have re written the timeline, thus the NX-01 was named Enterprise.

(I know...Tv Show, but it is just something I had thought about. Opinions Welcome)

I have actually had similar thoughts, like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Those poor guys in the Department of Temporal Investigations...

I hadn't thought about it but I do like the idea. Yes it's only a TV show but it's nice to try and keep it in continuity with itself.

Over analysing Trek is awesome! If you really look at it, even temporal investigations is a useless department. If you go back in time and change the timeline, temporal investigations will be affected by said change and not realize it has even occurred!

The only way they can do an investigation is if the 'changer' went back and didn't change anything.

Interesting thoughts. Maybe the investigators can actually visit "alternate timelines" to see how differing actions can alter things.

seems plausible. perhaps the alternate timeline will have similar connections and things.
TNG in the alternate timeline... what now? :)

Wasn't there a theory the the timeline that had the NX Enterprise could be retconned into the new movie timeline? The interference during the temporal cold war and with the NX and it's equipment looking more advanced in design it would fit the look of progression with the new movie Kirk era timeline.
