But I need help. Can someone help me do the character profile thing? It's going to take me too long to try and figure out all those particulars and many of you seem to have very vivid and colorful imaginations! I take any and all suggestions including cool names and position on the ship!

I made a Klingon, I think that's ok in the setting.

There is no Chief Engineer as of yet, although there are, I think, 3 folks down in that area.  That might be a possibility.

Maybe you can be an away team type specialist, I was thinking about that for myself but who knows if we are even going to be going on a planet.

Maybe a inter species diplomatic specialist.  Like that dude from Tin Man or something.  Oh wait you are making a Klingon.  Klingon diplomacy isn't very subtle.

I'm trying to think what other positions are up on the bridge, you might like that, but am not coming up with anything.

Hey that's a great idea! A Klingon Chief Engineer, I love it. Also it's ironic as I have zero mechanical skills whatsoever in real life. How about a name and some backstory?

Elizur

Maybe one of our rp veterns can help.  I had a bugger of a time with my own, actually.  I just copied Kenny's blank template and stared at it for an hour.

Perhaps at some point since you have a Klingon and so do I maybe they have some kind of history or something.

OK, it's coming together in my head. Here are some name ideas, help me pick:
K'outa
K'arath
K'arnac (Johnny Carson popped into my head!)

He's going to be a smaller, medium build Klingon, more of lean sprinter than B'atleth swining brute. I'm working on his profile, the backstory will take a little more time...

why doesn't your Klingon engineer character feel different from other Klingons? I mean, he really digs engineering, and doesn't care much for fighting and Klingon ways... he has felt this way for a long time, that is why he has pursued engineering, in fact other Klingons razz him for it.  He understands the klingon ways, but chooses not to embrace them... this puts conflict between him and the other Klingon on the ship, and perhaps he is the grandson or great grandson of the Klingon that kirk fought in the day of the dove... and he abhores violence...   now that would be something...  a klingon that is a pacifist.   hmmmmm.  Just a thought.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Klingon Officer:  We are here to negotiate a trade agreement
Alien:  Oh?  Good we have ideas that we think will be mutually agreeable.
Klingon:  Give us your stuff, cheap.
Alien:  Well that hardly seems fair, we should at least establish some form of mutal trade protection that-
**one of the alien trade vessels disappears in a hail of disruptor fire**
Klingon:  Give us your stuff, for even cheaper prices
Alien:  I must protest if you're trying to force a good price that's one thing but-
**another alien vessel disappears in a hail of disruptor fire**
Klingon:  Give us your stuff for free.
Alien:  Okay....

See!  Subtlety!

Okay that said, here are some questions to consider as you flesh out your Klingon Officer:

Klingons have their own military.  Why is this one in Starfleet?  Worf was anomalous at the time and I don't believe we saw too many other Klingons in Starfleet after that.  What made this Klingon chose to be part of the Federation and not his own military?

What makes him (or her) a good engineer?  Why did chose that path and not something more "Klingon" like security?  Are they simply gifted?  Connections?  Part of an exchange?

To be a senior officer takes more than just skill.  What has this officer done to set themselves as better then every other Ensign and Lt. JG out there and get the promotion and with it the post?

To illustrate what I mean:

Lt. Li joined Starfleet, in part, to prove to her sister that she had some worth after all.  Likewise, as her sister's ship was assigned the region of space around Bajor, she hoped she would posted as far away as possible.  For her Starfleet was an escape.

She's a good operations officer because when she works she is exceedingly thourogh.  Why write a one page memo when you can be that much more clear in a 4 page memo?  Her reports represent a complete overview of every system, and are indexed for easy reading.  She is held back by her need to over-perform, and a severe desire to be validated.

Cpt. Warwick signed off on her promotion to the OPs station on the USS ____ becuase he recognized that she had potential.  The OPs station requires someone who can see all the details.

That help?

Just multiply your repair estimates by a factor of four Bryan!  ;)

Great stuff! That's exactly what I was thinking, Moyer! Thanks as well Osterman, you guys have given me enought to flesh this out. Count me in, I'll have a profile posted this weekend.
