Today's crazy kids and their loud music!

Why in my day our musical groups emulated famous figures of American history with middle aged "Go Go Girls" and we liked it that way!

So remember - just say no to kicks.

I much prefer the wild and psychodelic groups of the period. In fact here is Tommy James and the Shondells performing Crimson and Clover.

Nice, xlent video quality too.

Another fab fav of mine is an early song, "Go now" by the Moody Blues.
They had their own 60's psychedelic sound with albums like: "Days of Future Passed" and "In search to the Lost Chord"

Mike Pinder lives just down the road (about 30 minutes) from me.
A couple years ago, I illustrated an article about a reading program for kids that he hosted. As a kind gesture he brought by a signed CD for me -  nice guy!

I never was much of a Mike Pinder fan but I have always loved the Moody Blues. They really didn't come into their own until Days of Future Passed and Justin Hayward and John Lodge were the driving force behind them. It was great to see Ray Thomas so young in the Go Now video! Here's another one of my favorite groups from the 60s. The Animals!

Great stuff!  I'm also a big fan of the Moody Blues.  I've even seen them in concert.

The Moodies have always put on a great show. I think they are still touring but without Ray Thomas now. I just don't think they would be the same without him.

Every good girl loves a bad boy and in that Eric Burdon was unique.

I suppose Eric Burden did have a bad boy image. I used to have all The Animal records when I was a kid. He had a unique voice with that bluesy edge. Now that you got me started Dave I can't help posting some of my other favorites.

The Buckinghams - Don't You Care?

The Asoociation - Cherish

I suppose these guys were a merger of rock and folk music. Much like the Mamas and Papas and they really had great harmonies. Songs like Cherish, Never My Love, Everything You Touch, Windy etc. they were one of the most popular vocal groups of the late 60s. I saw them once in the 1970s and they were still an excellent band.

Here is one I couldn't resist posting as it is The Association in 2008 performing Never My Love. It shows they still have the ability to harmonize.

Here's Fred Astaire introducing the We Five singing You Were On My Mind.

The McCoys - Sloopy Hang On

The Turtles - Happy Together

These guys were another band who had excellent harmonies and I owned all their records. The two main singers Flo and Eddie would go on to work with Frank Zappa.

The Doors - Touch Me

I suppose Jim Morrison was another bad boy. Unfortunately his life was cut too short because of his drug abuse. He was an excellent vocalist with a lot of charisma.

Enjoy!

Yay youtube, I've not seen most of these songs performed before -

I'm pretty connected to this music because (no kidding) I work with a guy who has musical tourettes and he sings this stuff all day long. Fortunately he has a good voice  :)

Zappa was amazing – gone before his time too.

I wonder what the story was with Ray Manzarek's black eye in The Doors – Touch Me video.

I agree that Zappa was amazing. He was a musical genius. His composing skills were outstanding and his use of instrumentation was unique. However, most people probably don't realize he was one of the best guitarists to ever play too. I love the Roxy and Elsewhere album as it shows off his guitar skills very well.

That was hilarious. Linda Ronstadt looking for a guitarist! :roflmao

It had to be very demanding working for Zappa. I can't imagine.
