US Sci Fi Channel to change it's name

I think this is a horrible idea...

We've known this was coming down the pike for some time and figured once Bonnie Hammer was promoted with greater leverage at NBC Universal her influence over the SCI FI Channel would bring about several changes, the most noticible being a name change.

Rumors running across the Net is the channel's bigwigs are considering the name "Beyond," which to them will reflect the move "Beyond" science fiction which has been quite evident over the past two years. Not sure how the pay channel Showtime will feel about the use of this name since they already have a specific channel in their lineup with that particular title, but at this time, all this is rumor and speculation — however sound of a foundation it appears to be resting on.

They have not been the "Sci-Fi" channel for a long time now and so I could really care less. Perhaps a better description would be the "horror" channel as more of their programming has been related to horror than science fiction for at least five years and probably more.

Oh, that's lame. It's so weird to suddenly change the name of a station that has been known as the "Sci-Fi Channel" for so long. I'll probably analyze this later when I'm more coherent.

They are still heavily Sci-Fi. Most of their original series programming is Sci-Fi: BSG, Stargates, Eureka. Not to mention imports like Doctor Who & Charlie Jade and Trek reruns. Yes, they fill up time slots with other somewhat questionable things but it is still primarily Sci-Fi.
