On October 30th, 1938, a young Orson Wells and his colleagues put out a radio broadcast that caused panic across the country.  A dramatization of H.G. Wells'  War Of The Worlds was mistaken by many listeners for an actual, real-time news broadcast--  folks apparently thought that Martians were actually invading the Earth.   :alien
