For those that may have been considering the purchase of a PS3, now may be the time.  Best Buy announced an exclusive bundle for $399, including two of the systems most popular PS3 only titles, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resistance 2.

The assumption is that Sony is trying to clear shelves of the 80gb units to make room for the as yet unannounced but long rumored PS3 "slim".  You may also want to consider that there have been rumors of a price drop circulating for a while now, but if you figure on eventually buying one or both of those games you're saving $60 - $100 right there.  There's also rumors of a free software update that will bring PS2 backwards compatibility to all PS3 systems.  PS3s sold in the past year or so have not had this feature.  All in all it seems a good time to pick up a PS3.

Yep, the 'added value' strategy. Keep the price at RRP but give 'em more with it.

Sony do have something up their sleeve and you could look at it this way. When the rumoured 'slim' model comes out you will be able to pick up an older model at a bargain price. May be worth it even for just a decent blu-ray player.

I still won't spend that much on it.  I mainly want one for the Blu-Ray player and those seem to be coming down a lot more in price than the PS3.  Several models now in about the $175 range of price.

Yeah it's kind of a big problem for Sony now.  For a long time the PS3 had the lowest price you could pay for a Bluray player plus you get an awesome next gen gaming system.  Not anymore, though...you can pick up a Bluray player pretty cheap now.  Anyway, Rico, you have a 360 right?  Unless there's some PS3 exclusive game you are dying to play (perhaps DC Universe online, the DC superhero MMO coming soon to a PS3 near you might persuade you) you are probably better off with a cheap Bluray disc player.

The kids are the 360 players.  I just play PC games mainly - basically WOW anyway.  I'm still guessing I'll end up with a PS3 someday.  Just not right now.
