Not joking around here...

I read this article and thought it was quite interesting. Basically the question is, if/when we encounter an alien race, how do we resolve the basic tenets of Christianity? Are we as mankind privileged? Is our God also the god of aliens?

Could be an interesting Take Him With you topic Mr. Moyer. :)

A Christian professor has told a U.S. Government-backed conference on space travel that the discovery of aliens would lead to significant problems for his own religion.
In a speech entitled 'Did Jesus die for Klingons too?', German academic Christian Weidemann outlined the possible ramifications that the ultimate space discovery would engender.
Speaking at the 100 Year Starship Symposium in Orlando Florida, Professor Weidemann also attempted to outline how the inevitable theological conflict might be resolved.

This is a very interesting, and quite impending, discussion. The answer of course, depends on your own personal view of faith and a supreme being. It is quite possible to believe that there is one God...but many Saviors. Each sentient race/planet would have their own version of Jesus. For, He's the familiar bearded man, for Klingon, well, he'd look more like Worf. I personally don't see any problem with believing that if God created US, why would He stop there? I mean, would you build a 10,000,000 square foot house with 1,000,000 rooms and only furnish one? Then why would God create an infinite universe with possibly billions of stars and planets, and only populate one?

Yeah, I'm not sure that the two are mutually exclusive. I think it's possible to believe in the Christian concept of God and Jesus and still allow for other form of life in the universe. Now, if they BELIEVE or have FAITH is a different consideration. I would think and believe he has mentioned on Take him with You that Rick also doesn't think the possibility of extraterrestrial life is excluded from or contradictory to the teaching in the Bible.

I'm sure Rick has covered some I'd this on THWY...

Yeah, this feels like sometime earlier this year or late last year he covered this topic.

I personally think that if there are indeed other races, that God loves them just as much as us.  (otherwise, why create them?)

I think there probably is life out there somewhere and the God I know is sure to have revealed himself to them somehow.  In my opinion he is pretty big!

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Ah yes, now I remember some talk about this on THWY. Interesting that it's being discussed at a DARPA-funded conference :)
