Well I finally watch last Sunday's episode and after reading your comments I went in with low expectations... but I actually really enjoyed it. I like the character of Helo and his character has gone through alot, it was so good to see him do something "right" and good for a change.

I agree Kenny. It was nice that Helo got to be the hero for a change. I still thought it was entertaining and I was happy that poor Helo got that chance. But the uber geek in me wants to be picky, especially since I know Ron Moore has done better. The story seemed so forced. Why the heck couldn't anyone just check out the darn civilian doc? I didn't get what the big Frak'n dealio was. Ok, Ty supposidly knew him on New Caprica, but we didn't...this was our first introduction to this doctor and the writers had a responsibility to make us believe he and Ty had a history and that he was some how important. I don't think they did a very good job with that.

Also, In the past, everyone has just gone along with whatever Helo did, good or bad, especially Admiral Adama. Yet in this episode, Adama gets up in Helo's face. It really seemed out of character, and very abrupt.  :blink I think these things were the root problem with the episode, at least for me.

The begining of the episode with Dewala, Lee and crew,  bouncing down the halls laughing and cutting up like high schoolers also felt out of character to me. Especially since we just saw them all at each other's throats for the past 3 or four episodes. Tension between everyone, after the last show, was still somewhat there. Now they're skipping down the halls doing a "90210" imitation?  :cheering

:D I can't take credit for the 91210, the hosts of Galactica Watercooler came up with that anology, but I totally agree it was very teenie-bopper.

Now I have to say I disagree about the out of character part.  We see a lot of the negative, the angry, the fuming etc.  We needed a chance to see them with their hair down.  We needed to be reminded that they like each other, or at the least that they can put on the face of liking each other.

I wasn't bothered by it as much as minded the fact that this episode was "plunked in" just to be there.  Random doctor out of no where.  No development of this "Racism".  No history for these refugees.  Like the guys at GWC, I was like "Give me a LINE to explain this...."

The episode felt like it had been sitting in a binder since season 1, waiting to be pulled out when they needed some filler and some bashing of the overly religious....

I respect you're opinion Mr. O... And I like to see people getting along too. I'm quite tired of all the bickering, but you have to admit that the scene in the corridor was over the top.  They were just at eachothers' throats now they're best buds? It was 90210 in space.

You can't see me, but I'm making the "W" sign with my hands and giving it my best to pull off the Valley Girl accent with a over dramatic phrase of "What...EVER" .  :D
LOL...

I wonder if this is a way to interject the whole racism issue into the show for some 'future' side-plot complication...  If not, then it was a waste of effort to even bring it up in the first place.

I was confused by the whole Six and Baltar scene in the beginning.  I think it was only there to fuel the speculation that he is a Cylon.  If he isn't a Cylon, then I have a hard time figuring out what that scene represented.  I do not think Baltar is a Cylon (that would just be way too easy) so the scene is buggin me.

Yesterday, I listened to both Ron Moore's episode commentary podcast and the latest Galactica Watercooler podcast.

According to RDM, the Sagittaron storyline was being built up to have consequences later on at the end of the season.  However, when they ended up doing those final episodes, they made the decision to not follow through on it.  So, this episode will, in retrospect, appear to have no great purpose in the grand BSG storyline.  There was Sagittaron backstory going back to the New Caprica colonization and Gaeda's assault on Baltar was tied to that.

I understood all the criticisms in the GWC podcast.  Having already listened to RDM, though, I already had a lot of the answers to the questions they asked.

I can't recommend enough to fans that they listen to the official commentary.  It's a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how a great show is put together.  And some episodes, like this one, are really enhanced with the extra information you get.

For example, while watching the episode, I thought Adama and Doc Cottle were much too dismissive of Helo.  Knowing the backstory, it all makes sense.  (And, yes, it is a flaw of the episode that you need to listen to the podcast for those characters' actions to make sense.  RDM admitted as much this week.)

The "90210 scene" didn't seem out-of-character to me.  It was nice to have a scene where the heroes weren't at each other's throats.   We've had them before, but it's been a long while.

yeah you have to listen to Ron's podcasts.

Ron didn't much care for this episode.  He was as honest as he could be, I think.

After his commentary, the episode did indeed make much more sense.

Yes, After Rons podcast, the episode made much more sense regarding Helo. I had always felt that Helo had got away with his actions earlier in the season with killing the cylons and spoiling Galacticas Plans. I guess unofficially he was punished with a loss of respect from his crew mates and being assigned a bad assignment. I just never really picked up on it in the epsiode, though it should have seemed obvious. In this case, I actually may have been better served listening to Ron Moores podcast before actually seeing the episode. ;)

Jen

I agree Pickard, we shouldn't have to listen to an "after the fact" podcast to make sense of the episode. I do listen to Ron Moore's podcast for inside info and I think if they felt the Sagitaron story needed to be cut from all the other episodes, then it defiantly shouldn't have been used as a stand alone show. It was weakened by the removal of the story arch in the previous episodes. After listening to Ron's podcast, I know why it felt sort of slapped together. That's all I have to say 'bout that. :)

Tonight's episode was MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better! Very well written! But I'm fearing the "brig" scene I saw in the preview. Chief and Cally just went above and beyond in tonight's episode and next week Cheif will be tossed in the brig for treason?   :D

Arhhhh....must...give...next...episode...a...chaaance....before...I...criticize....agh!   ;)

I liked the scenes with Chief and Cally in last nights epsiode. All the scenes with them trying to patch the airlock, and then blowing them out the Airlock, I really enjoyed. Part of me thought, that they might kill Cally off, especially with their marriage troubles as of late, happy they did not. I will admit the other part of the episode with Adama and the sequences with his ex wife was not all that interesting to me. Not sure if I really am that interested in seeing Adama and Roslin get together, prefer their relationship to be as it is. After this episode, I am really looking forward to Baltars trial, and now it looks like Apollo will play a part in it.

Geekyfanboy

I really enjoyed this episode.. I'm so happy the are staying away from Apollo/Starbuck storyline. Last week Helo, this week Chief/Cally. I really enjoyed their story. I agree with Jeff, I thought they were going to kill off Cally but I'm glad they didn't. One thing I disagree with Jeff is I like the idea of Adama and Roslin being together. I like the chemistry they have. I didn't mind the Adama backstory but I enjoyed the Chief and Cally story more. I'm glad they are going to try and work things out.

Jen

I like Roslin and Adama too. But I hope they string that along for as long as possible. I like the "Picard and Crusher" relationship they have.
I was REALLY happy we didn't rehash the Starbuck/Lee thing...but I won't go there again. Over all I liked every aspect of this episode, not sure what I think about the "Lee has always wanted to be a lawyer" thing...That was really convenient given the trial. What kid sneaks off to read law books? Seemed weird.
