Wow, this was interesting...Not surprising but to hear a little behind the current stuff is. And a cool new thread!

Very interesting.  I'd love to see an adult oriented animated show featuring the untold early adventures of TOS crew, it would be awesome.

a new animated show would be a good idea, the series could last almost as long as you wanted!

This is all just internet chatter for now like it has been for literally years now.  There won't be anything happening on this for awhile.

Well at least this comes directly from the creative minds currently shepherding the franchise. Nice to see an insight into their thinking.

I'd love to see any new Trek on TV.. animation or live action.

I mean I love Star Wars Clone Wars, would love to get a new Star Trek every week.. it's been too long.

I'd be surprised if anything actually comes of this rumor. I suppose if the next film is a smash hit it will be given a lot more serious consideration by CBS but that's still another year away and probably another year after that before any real movement would be made and so at the earliest I think we would see another Trek TV show would be three years from now. I'm not too hopeful though.

I do hope that the stretch between the next film won't be another four years. I really think that was too long to let the movie franchise lay dormant. I think it might be hard to seduce back the non-fans into the theater after such a long stretch. People have moved on already.

I agree Kevin.  Everyone was told when Enterprise ended that it could easily be another 10 years before we get a new Trek series.  That was in 2005 so that would make a new series happen maybe in 2015.  I don't see it happening at least until a year after the next film - at the earliest.  CBS is just not that interested at this point.  It's a very expensive show to make and they need to feel it will be worth it to them.  How the next film does at the box office will be very important.  It has to be a big hit to show the interest is there or another series anytime soon is not going to happen.

Well, at least it's not some jack off with a blog posting idel speculation and navel gazing rumors. It's Bob Orci. His quote says it all:

"There are two major issues. Alex and I and Bad Robot want to make sure that nothing gets in the way of the movies, but number 2, Paramount controls the movies and CBS controls TV. So there is a little bit of power struggle there in terms of what happens. I have mentioned to CBS the idea of a Star Trek series and they are interested in it, but they would have to coordinate with Paramount and they would have to coordinate with Bad Robot. It is something we we are trying to figure out. If we can figure out a beautiful timing for it, it is something we would all love to do. It is tricky, with multiple chefs in that kitchen. It is something many of us are thinking about and I want to see one too."

How would people feel about a TV "reboot" of TNG based on the Abrahms Trek universe?

It would be interesting to see the 24th Century of this universe.

I would actually prefer they stay in the current timeline. Obviously the films come first and will continue without TV support until such time as they either stop doing box office or Paramount/Bad Robot and CBS can agree there is money to be made.

I don't know if they'd do that for fear on treading on each others toes. I think Paramount would always want to hold on to the option of doing more movies.
If they went or a later time period there is less chance of that. Also who would the show focus on in the Kirk time period? They sure aren't going to get any of those movie actors to play their characters on a show so it would have to be a different ship or a recast which would lessen the appeal I think.
