Horta Hears a Q By Peter David

So this morning, Arnie from Star Wars Action News was joking around on Twitter and asked if there had ever been a Trek/Dr. Seuss mashup called "Horton Hears a Who". I chimed in and said it should be "Horton Hears a Q".

He then tweeted at Trek author Peter David (writer of such Trek novels as  Q-in-Law, I, Q, Vendetta, Q-Squared and Imzadi) saying he should write it. I heartily agreed.

Tonight, my iPhone started bleeping at me with the following (minor langauge pun at the end):

Okay, uh..."In a small mining world, number six of Star Janus; which is ninety nine million light years from Uranus

"In a tunnel in sector 580 B 2; a Horta named Janus did hear a small Q."

"Excuse me," said Janus, "But I thought I knew/Everybody around here, so who then are you?"

"Who am I? You slow moving relic of mid-60s schlock; they call me the Q. What are you, sir? A rock?"

"I am a Horta and I don't care what you think!" "Well, you can lead a Horta culture, but you can't make it think."

"Now don't be so mean," said the Horta sadly. "Because if you are, then all this will end badly."

Well the Q, he did sneer. "You cannot threaten me. How would you attack? Gonna nibble my knee?"

"Dear Horta, I can crush you with merely a thought." "Dear Q, I think a lesson must here now be taught."

"For you've made a mistake, so now I must tell, that when you judge someone, don't stop at the shell."

"For you may be a Q, but I am an R, and that means that I am much stronger, by far."

"And then there's my son, "Fuh" is his name, so when you are defeated, there's just you to blame."

"Be you R, be you Fuh, do your worst, Mama Rock. But if you attack me, you're in for a shock."

So he boasted and laughed and then suddenly howled. For Fuh leaped upon him and he was disemboweled.

Janus said, "Before you die, I should introduce you. Q...this is Fuh. And I must add: Fuh, Q." THE END
