But Mike is 500mb really typical? I easily go over that on my work phone every month with email, attachments, etc. and no streaming of TV or movies.

Typical? I don't know. Its typical in as far as everyone offers it (basic is 250 Mb) but I don't know who pays what for data. Higher levels are obviously available for more money.

On the iphone 6 front, I've reached the point where I'm just not prepared to spend that much. Maybe when the kids leave home...

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Mike, I soul searched on the price, since I hate spending that kind of money (especially with university tuition fast approaching).  I want the larger screen for work - remote controlling stuff.  I tend to keep phones for a long time and squeeze every last farthing out of them.  :)

Pete - do you use your phone for work a lot?  Get them to pay for it!

Bromptonboy

I have pages forwarded to my phone - and I have an email app that lets me connect to our Notes mail server.  The ability to remote would be to make my life easier.  They used to give us phones back in the day, but not any more.  :(  I will however deduct the phone as a non-reimbursed work expense..

No paid for work phone - no worky on it.  That's my take.

:)  If I dug my heels in, I would probably get some miserable old blackberry, and then want to carry an iPhone in addition.  Even worse, they might give me one of those god awful pagers..

Mine too. Sadly, they gave me a cheap one so now I have to carry 2.

Companies are really dumb sometimes. The hardware isn't the real cost - it's the plan.  So no matter what phone they give you it costs about that same overall.

Bromptonboy

I agree - I would like them to leverage the power of the Enterprise in pricing.  I do get 18% off on service from AT&T.

Grats Pete. As for the data caps, the whole point of the upgrade for me is to be able to stream over LTE on a screen I can actually feel good about viewing on. Xfinity, HBO Go, Netflix all support streaming on demand over LTE, and with unlimited data, on a good network, I'll be doing it all the time.

Thanks - although I could get by with much less, why give it up?  With the big screen, I will do more with it I am sure.

Arrrgh!  I never hit complete my order...had to do the whole thing over again today.  Looks like the clock will restart on my deliver.  :(

This is a bit off topic, but does anyone have a good suggestion for a phone for kids?  I just want to get them talk & text phones - not smartphones.

Our household works on the trickle-down philosophy: when the parenets upgrade their phones, the older phones go to the kids. My daughter complains about having to deal with my old iPhone 3GS, but she can call, text, and play some cool games. Also, the calendar feature helps coordinate schedules.

Are you sure you don't want your kid to have a smartphone?
