Star Trek RPG - The Proposal

Ok after several discussions with forum members and the great response on the other thread of people who are interested in doing a forum based Star Trek based RP I have decided to take it a step further and post a proposal on a few details:

USS {ship name as yet undisclosed (I want to give Rico a voice on this and haven't had chance to speak to him yet)}

Akira class starship (refit)

Basing the series on the edges of the federation space in the alpha quadrant (not too far from Deep Space 3). Timeline wise we're aiming to start the series Post TNG & DS9 but Pre-Nemeses (at about the same time Voyager returns home).

Everyone who plays will be given the role of one of the members of the crew and will be required to continue the story along when they post from the perspective of their character.

All the major roles will be up for grabs and available on a first come first served basis (bear in mind though that if you take chief of security, etc and only post once in a blue moon we may have to change things around so that people who post more regally get a good chance). The only roles that for the moment are pre-decided are as follows:

Fleet Admiral: Rico (Rico, I hereby request that you be our fleet admiral! It will mean you can get involved as much or as little as your free time allows and you can throw us some great curve balls now and again if you wish)

Captain & XO (first officer): Will be played by myself & Kenny respectively. Both Kenny & I have played and run online RPs before and we know how to make these things fun, so if you trust us we'll do our best for you.

Apart from that all is free. We will need heads of department for the following:

- Chief Medical Officer
- Chief of Engineering
- Chief Science Officer (Jen has already expressed an interest here so I will give her first refusal)
- Chief of Opps
- Helmsman/woman

After those positions are full we can start fleshing out the departments with other crew (so don't be disappointed if you don't get a "Chief" position, it can be just as fun, if not more fun sometimes to be a normal crew member).

So, now it's over to you guys for some replies. Let me know any of the following:

- What you think
- Any Suggestions
- If you want to claim a position which one? (first come first served)

Hey Tim.  Walter here.  Im definitely interested.  Ive never played one of these before so if you dont mind a beginner (maybe I can be just a red shirt security officer) Ill participate.  I am about 6 hrs ahead of most everyone in the US (9 hrs ahead of Kenny and anyone else on the west coast) so I hope that will not cause a problem.  Otherwise count me in!!

That's not a problem at all. I'm 8 hrs ahead of Kenny & the like myself as I'm from the UK. Timezones are no barrier here :)

As for taking a random "Redshirt" crew position, that's fine too. Consider yourself on the list of sign ups :D

Very well, I should like to join as well.  It would probably be best if I was a random underling.  Assign me to whatever dept needs me, with a preference towards Ops or Engineering, and the lowest rank to start out, maybe I can earn myself a promotion down the road.

Until I figure out what's going on, I'll probably just say "Aye, sir" a lot.

Love the idea!  Sounds great so far.  A few thoughts.  I'm fine with you and Kenny taking the lead on this.  I'll just be the annoying Admiral that pops in for inspections now and then.  Hehe..... 

Here's a thought.  I'm going to get the site text chat program up and going again soon.  Maybe we can pick some day and time occasionally to meet in chat and kind of run a little scenario?  I think that would be a lot of fun. 

Keo & Kenny - I suggest taking nominations for the ship name for maybe a week or so and then put a poll up for voting on the nominees.  I think it helps if folks get a say in that.  Might want a new thread in this section for that.  Keep it going guys ----   :)

I've never done anything like this before, although when I was but a lad I used to play D&D quite a bit. 

I might make a pretty good engineer.  I'm not very wordy though so it might be good for me to have a position that isn't so...well wordy.

This is going to be so much fun... it's not that tough. It's like telling an on going story. Matt and I will start a plot and a situation. Then everyone will react to it and we go from there. Piece of cake.

This will be my first playing an RP game like this.  But I am totally open to having some fun with it!  Put me in a Engineering or Ops position with opportunity for advancement (if I am up to the task).

I would like to be a crew member as well. Nothing to special, just one of the common joes on the ship carrying out orders, either in Engineering or Security.

I think I might be up for this.  I would like to a counselor, I don't have to be betazoid, but it would help.  As long as this doesn't take massive time.  Perhaps if it does and I can 't keep up you could kill me off.  :)

Anyway, it might be nice to have an explanation of how this works.  I have never participated at all in this kind of thing.

So, explain it for me, and then if you want, I will sign up for counselor or crewman, or an ensign, whatever you need.  It might be fun to be a blue barber.  Or a bar tender...  I would be up for that too.

I'd like to work some shifts on tactical on the bridge, perhaps similarly to the role Worf had on the Enterprise while Tasha Yar was still alive, something close to second in command of security/tactical.  Also I've thought alot about the race of my toon and I've been fascinated recently when I found out on these boards that Saavik was supposed to be half Vulcan, half Romulan.  So for some very basic back story I'd like to imagine myself as that combination, possibly raised by a family of neither background so continually in the proccess of discovering things about fundamental elements of my past.  I'm definitely going to be thinking more about this and I'm looking forward to playing.

Whoa, whats all this? I hadn't seen this post before. I think I would like to join the crew. Maybe as something in security, or even the next Guinan. I wouldn't mind starting low as long as there is room for promotion, but if you don't have anyone for chief of security..... Count me in Guys ;)
