This weekend I went to a Comic show in Calgary, Alberta Canada. This was the first time I attended this one, and had a great time. I was hoping to pickup a bunch of stuff, but unfortunately Did not find anything, as it was so crowded, tough to really have a good look. They had a whole bunch of guests there as well, and I got to get an autograph from two.

First I went and got Robert Picardo's Autograph. He was a really friendly fellow, and was joking with people about Star Wars and Star Trek.  In person he seems a lot like his character on Voyager. I told him I wish I could see him in more Trek, and he told me to watch the reruns ;) Which is what I would expect the Doctor to tell me.

Next I went and got Ray Park's Autograph, The Line Up was Long, but worth the wait. I have heard lots of Good Things about Ray, and they are all very true. He is very energetic person, and really open to the fans, and you can see he has a great time. Just before we got our Autographs, he put on a Lightsaber demostration with a member of the local 501st who was dressed up as Maul. Ray Really knows how to Handle a MR Lightsaber

Wow Jeff.. those are some great pictures. I'm glad to hear that you had a good experience with Robert and Ray. They sounds like great guys.

Cool.  I'm a big fan of The Doctor, so I'm jealous there.

Ray Park does seem cool.  There are bunches of YouTube videos from other conventions where he engages in duels, usually after setting up the choreography with the participants.  He's very impressive.

Sounds like a nice weekend.

I was just about to say that he Indeed knows how to use a Lightsaber just search Darth Maul and see thousands of vids of he playing with someone using lightsabers. (did that make any sense?) was this comic con?

Very cool time there Jeff.  Ray Park I have always heard great stuff about.  It's cool that he is so nice with the fans.  Great pictures!  There's a comic con here in the Detroit area in a couple weeks.  I hope to get some pics and maybe an audio snippet or two from some celebs.

Yeah he was supposed to be part of a panel on how costume determines character for actors but most of the panel cancelled... turned out to be more like "how we work around in these things the nutters in costuming send to us".

He was a LOt of fun to listen to though.

The Show was really busy, they had something like 30 comicbook artists there, maybe even more then that. All the Guests lined the walls around the convention hall.  As well they had a couple ladies from Firefly/Serenity and Lour Ferrigno(The Original Incredible Hulk) Not to many people selling collectibles though, which was a bit disappointing to me, but lots and lots of Comic Books. The Alberta 501st garrison was in attendance, and they are always popular with lots of people wanting pictures. Lots of people dressed up in Superhero costumes. It was really cool, and definitely the largest in our province.
My Wife works at a Framing store, so she is going to frame my Autographed Robert Picardo and Ray Park pictures, as well she will put in the picture of me with them as well to the matte, so I am looking forward to that.

I met Ray Park at Wizard World Chicago last year.  He's a very nice guy.

Nice pics!

My Wife Works at a Picture framing company, and she was able to get my Autographs framed for me. I have them in my Computer room, but I am hoping to get my Collecting Room Developed in the next year and move them down there.

Wow.. very nice frames.. must be nice to have 'connections' :)

jedijeff

Yes, it sure does Help, as it probably cost me about 1/3 of what it would have cost me at a store. My wife will be leaving in a few months to go back to School, so I will need to be fast if there is anything else I want framed.

Jen

AWESOME! I've heard the same things about Ray. I'm glad that some of the SW Stars love the fans. Anthony Daniels, Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan, I've heard are also very friendly and open to fans.

I've heard mixed reviews regarding Robert Picardo. He sounds sarcastic, maybe the people who think he's rude are misreading him because of his quick witt.

I met John Delancy (Q) when I was in high school. He was very nice and he seemed very interested in speaking one on one with the fans but the people in charge of the conn kept us moving past him too fast...I didn't get to speak to him at all.

He signed a sketch I drew of him. He seemed to really like it but he couldn't tell which one of us gave it to him because the items we wanted signed were passed ahead of us in an "assembly line" of sorts. That was disappointing. But I'll never forget how nice he was...even when people asked him geeky questions like "do you like being omnipotent?" He would always answer them respectfully.

Nice framing by the way! Kudos to your wife. ;)

Hi Jen

I found Robert Picardo to be pleasant person, I spoke with him for a few minutes well he Autographed my picture. I found that in person he had a similar attitude to his character on Voyager, so that might put people off. He was very polite to me, even when I asked him some silly question out of nervousness. He even Stood for a picture with me, even though it took my wife a couple tries to get the Picture, so very appreciative of that.

A funny story, when I was leaving the convention, I bumped into a couple of my friends. One of them was wearing his Star Trek costume. He had been volunteering at the convention with the 501st, and went to change to get his picture with Robert. I guess th event Staff flagged them down, and they ended up working at Roberts Table for the remainder of the day helping with the autographs.
