Okay, I know this might sounds like an odd request for a texted based story, but I've been looking at the concepts for the Star Trek Online and I am in love with the uniform designs. Is there a way that the crew of the Tiberius can start to move to those uniforms as sort of the beta testers for the uniforms? I can really see back story being created as the crew helps to field and design all the cool glowy tech on the uniform. Just imagining the possiblities are quite fun.

I like them too...I'm down with that if everyone else is.

Why not?  We've made the ship, the crew, a new shuttle, lets make the uniforms! :starwars:

I put in one pic and here are mroe that I found. The large pic in this series shows the uniform in various stages of added accessories.

Something to keep in mind is that this game is set during a time of war. I've seen these images on the  STO site and LOVE the artwork. But the uniforms look like they reflect the fact that the story in the game takes place during on-going conflict—particularly the last images. The first ones are fairly normal but the last post looks somewhat like body armor. IF we do take this route, which I like because once the game comes out we can mesh any guild we form with our ongoing RPG stories, we may eventually want to consider the war aspect for our RPG.

I thought about that and figured that Starfleet, after the hurting the Dominion gave them, might be field testing modular components for uniforms as a means of protection. Given that the Klingons and Jem'Hadar are all for personal combat, Starfleet fielding uniforms that can add armor or sensor tool could be a first step.

I did notice that they went more to phasers shaped like guns again. Something that I approve of only because a pistol shape is more accurate and I never believed that the TNG styled phasers would be seen as less of a threat.

I've gotta say that I think these uniforms are a bit too "superhero" for my tastes. To be more specific, though, they seem to borrow too much from Dominion and Cardassian design. And while, yes, the Federation did take a beating in the war, they did it without compromising their simple uniform style. The pros for this modular design are that they can be modified for light duty and heavy battle and that they would seem to be more adaptable to the wide variety of body (species) types in Starfleet. The cons: modular designs have more parts, which means that more can go wrong with them; and the belts look bulky and would play havoc with any species (like humans) that requires some level of lumbar support when they sit for over a half-hour. Also, not related to the modular design, what the heck is with the phaser? Why'd they have to change it back to a gun-looking thing?

I know we're supposedly in a time of war (against whom, again?), but the Federation has been in dozens of wars and not felt the need to change the simplicity of the uniform. Ships and weapons maybe (which is why I concede the phaser argument), but not even the Borg made a significant impact on the clothes.

That's my two cents. I don't think the uniforms are crap--maybe just a little overwrought.

Those are very cool Just X.  Looks like an interesting game ahead.

I would disagree. I think the federation has constantly been altering their uniforms due to the circumstances happening to starfleet at the time. Look at how the uniform progressed during the course of DS9.

As for the pistol type phasers, they aren't really different than the wand type phasers and the resoning behind the wand type phasers, expecially considering how all the larger phasers are designed like gun, didn't make much sense.

Sure, they have a lot of potential accessories, but I don't think that you need to be decked out in the body armor on a daily basis.

I think the federation goes through changes almost too often. Look at the personal forcefield that are suposedly canon from TAS. We haven't seen them since and I would rather one of those than a bulky space suit that didn't seem to change much since the days of the NX-01

KingIsaacLinksr

I think that they haven't changed the bulky suits because they want you to remember that these people are outside the ship in space.  Just me :)

Your entitled to your opinion but let me remind everyone this is a story with no pictures. Who cares what uniforms we have or what they look like? We can't see them anyway. Besides, a lot of the uniforms in past Trek shows/movies were pretty ridiculous. Need I remind you of the ugly man skirts?

Again, if the game ever comes out and if we're still writing in this RPG I would hope that fellow Treksf board members would play STO too...particularly the RPG members. I think the game would be a nice adaptation, and add a second tier to our future on-going RPG stories. So, the uniform explanation is an interesting bridge between the two. That's all I'm saying.

All of this, for me, is based on "if".

I like them pretty much.  It's hard to tell how they really will look until you see them fully in 3-D.  But I think they still look "Trek-like" enough and yet new and different as well.

That's a good idea Jen. It'd be nice to involve the STO storyline with our RPG.

The main reason the uniforms have all the extra "gear" is to show off to your friends and enemies what type of cool gear you have in the game. Remember that STO is an online game and if everyone had the same uniform on with no ability to upgrade the game would be kinda' bland. One of the main attractions of any MMORPG is the ability to change/upgrade your avatar's appearance and gear. STO needs to have this feature to attract and retain players.
