Woohoo... it just happened.. was on the site for about twenty minutes... the offline monitor comes on make an tone and the picture is up for about 20 seconds then back to static.

Holy Frak! They have moved into the sets of BSG! Looks like a moody, grittier re-imagining is on tap, taking a page from Ron Moore's playbook. That worked well for BSG and if that is the case for this movie, can the same be said for Star Trek? When you think of Trek, can you imaging a TOS done in the same style as the new BSG? Just speculating!

It could work. I think the reason I like DS9 and Enterprise more then other Trek series is because they are grittier. I don't think that Gene's classic Utopian vision of the future really cuts it in today's media (unfortunately).

Again, I'm fine with some type of new look.  Although that look seems more like an "under construction" corridor.  Seems kind of unfinished.  Interesting stuff to ponder though.  Cool find!

When I saw that, my first reactions was "Wow this really blends the design ideas for the NX-01 and the TOS constitution class". It has a sort of space submarine feel to it and I think all of the chrome piping mimics the old red piping from TOS.

I also like the lighting a bit, but we don't know if this a the final design yet.

Funny thing is, as much as we debate and complain and speculate, we won't know anything for certain until we sit and watch the movie. But sitting here spinning our wheels is fun!

As a creative marketing concept, the trailer is brilliant.

After watching it however, I'm wondering why these future construction workers are using handheld welding torches. If they're not going to use robotics, shouldn't they at least be using phaser welders or molecular bonders? Also, what's with the fans in the forward section of the nacelles?

I guess the fan-looking things are supposed to explain why the interior of the bussard collectors appear to be spinning in TOS.

Yeah I'd say the fan looking things actually make sense, to maximize the efficiency of the bussard collectors, if they spun they could theoretically create a varying magnetic field which would be able to draw in stray hydrogen from a larger area.

That and they had to justify why the original collectors spun.

I really have to stop reading that TNG technical manual. I think the first time I went through it I was 12. My copy is pretty ratty.

LOL Cool; I'm not the only one! :laugh:

I still have my 3rd copy of the TNG Tech Manual, the other two had to be retired. 

Has anyone checked out the DS9 Tech Manual?  It's pretty sweet as well, and has a pretty decent chapter dedicated to the Defiant. ;D
