Raimi Returns To TV With Wizard's

Sam Raimi will executive produce a new syndicated, live-action weekly series targeted for a fall launch in conjunction with Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series, titled Wizard's First Rule, is based on Terry Goodkind's fantasy book series The Sword of Truth.

The hour-long series follows the extraordinary transformation of woodsman Richard Cypher into a magical leader who joins with a mysterious woman to stop a bloodthirsty tyrant.

The series will also be produced by Robert Tapert (The Grudge), Joshua Donen (The Quick and the Dead) and Ned Nalle (Xena: Warrior Princess). Disney-ABC Domestic TV is distributing, and ABC Studios is producing.

Wizard's marks the return of the weekly syndicated fantasy series genre, which had disappeared following its heyday in the late 1990s with Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena, both produced by Raimi.

Production on 22 episodes is slated to begin in May.

the sword of truth series is wonderful and i am eagerly awaiting the final book's release. these novels are so encompasing and the thoughts brought up within them. ie Richards rules and explainations are extremely well thought out and stated perfectly. iplan to eventually hang enlarged key pages on my wall right next to the magna carta and constitution. . .okay maybe those will be in a different room . . but still they are awe inspiring. i worry that a series would have to cut or water down alot of the story, but if peter can do it with LOTR, maybey they can do well too.  Here's to fervently hoping! Of course wizards first rule is just the beginning so maybe i,m reading too much into it anyway.

in the meantime,
(fingers crossed and eyes shut tight)

Well the cool thing is that it's a TV series and not a movie.. so they have plenty of time to tell the story.
