I'm not sure if Instacast streams over port 80 or some other port (I know shoutcast uses other ports at times). I guess it's possible that those ports are closed on the new server.

jedijeff

That is a possibility, is Instacast preset with the Port it uses for streaming?

Rico

Why do they need to use this Instacast to stream?

billybob476

They don't. I use it as my "podcatcher" so I don't have to sync my phone with iTunes. It's a great app. If you haven't downloaded the episode, you can just stream it via the app. Works for all feeds except anomaly. I believe it just consumes your podcast feed so you don't have to do anything special.

Rico

Ahhh, gotcha.  Sounds like a permissions thing perhaps or a database on their server issue.

jedijeff

Odd that it doesn't work for the Anomaly podcast, but for others, as it sounds that you don't have to do anything special to allow it to stream. I looked on the site for the App, but they did not seem to have a support forum unfortunately :(

Feathers

Hmmm. Podcaster streams it but doesn't upate the time slider in the usual way so you can only stream from the beginning and not jump around within the episode like you can with other feeds.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Jen

Howdy guys. Thanks for helping us with this hairball. According to Jeff, some of the shows have wp addresses not www addresses (due to the new site we created).  Not sure why that is. I'm assuming Angela will have to go back and fix the xml. I sent her an email early this morning, along with the newest Anomaly episode to upload (Anomaly of ET). I'm hoping she'll know what to do to fix it.

Also, we have two streaming media players on our web site and blog. Sometimes the players appear with all the episodes in them...sometimes they're gone. Today they're gone. Joy of joys. http://www.anomalypodcast.com/listen-now and http://anomalypodcast.blogspot.com/ I'm sure the issue with your streaming player and the issue with ours are related some how.

Jeff, I'm going to be out of town soon...but Angela will be home. Thank you both for trying to figure this out for us.

Sounds like a feed and link issue.  My suggestion would be to comb through your feed file and adjust it so all the shows direct to your new locations and not a WP location.  WP, blogspot, etc. do some weird things and you are better off having all your casts in one, clean new directory far away from WP.  Probably take some work to move things around and adjust your feed, but in the end it will work much better I think.

jedijeff

Hopefully a couple tweeks should get it righted

We had to move our web site and feed to a PHP server. We had part of our old site on the PHP server (due to a database that our gallery is connected to) and we were asked to move the whole thing there for simplicity.   Everything exists in the same place now. We were having issues with the feed finding the server when podcast was down. We had the xml pointing to the www address, but it wasn't working.  Angela said that the moment she pointed the feed to the wp address (which we were only using to test our new site), the feed started working again. I'm not sure how she has things running, as I'm the show editor she's the show uploader.

She said she will change it back to our www address to see if everything will straighten out with the streaming and what not, but she's nervous that the entire feed will all go down again. Not sure what the problem is. Its frustrating as heck. God help us if we actually have to switch hosting companies. All we were doing was switching servers at the same company. What a nightmare.

Humm, interesting. The players we use to stream the feed are from "Big Contact.com". We just use a few lines of code that embeds their free player on our site and blog. The players are frequently down. I think it's Big Contact, as I just tried to visit their site and it won't come up. I got a  "(110) Connection timed out error".  Coincidentally, both our players are AWOL this morning as well. http://www.bigcontact.com/

That's very odd.  Switching servers at a host shouldn't really cause those issues.  Are you still using Feed For All to edit and update your feed?

I noticed that the other Day Jen, that the Streaming site was down, so that site must be having issues. Hopefully it will get itself restored.

Yep. We are. I believe it was a DNS issue that was resolved late because Angela was finishing up her treatments and couldn't get to it.
