As many of you know, I just had to withdraw from both college and full-time posting on Treksf.com and that I returned to my paren't house.  After some time I've decided that its time for change.

I've been playing wow for more than a year, this is now coming to an end.  Due to drama in my old-time guild, I've been kicked out and lost a lot of friends.  This combined with the drama of wow in general, the grind of Wow finally getting to me has finally gotten me away from the game.  Will I never play again?  Eh, we will see.

I've moved to my Aunt's house in Portland to look for a new job and hope to find one soon.

I am also returning to Treksf.com for "full-time" posting and the return to the RPG game.  Though I will be staying out till the next season.

I am also playing a game which genre is something that I have always loved.  Its called Eve Online.  I know, I know, I can hear you thinking, "oh no, not another MMO".  However, after playing this game for 7 days, I have found it to be a much more flexible game, doesn't have a superiority complex like Wow, a lot less drama which is good for me, and doesn't come with the BS that Blizzard has given World of Warcraft.

I want to thank ppl here for the kind messages and the understanding.  and I'm glad to have returned here.

Glad things are looking up for you Tim.  Change can be a positive thing.

P.S.  My younger son played Eve for awhile.  Let me know if you have any questions and I'll pass them on to him.

Omra

Look forward to seeing you back in the game and on the boards.

EVE looks interesting.

Sometimes it's a good thing Tim to just step back and refocus and really look at what distractions are in your life which are hindering you from accomplishing your goals, or being the best you can be. I hope your drop out of school is only temporary and that this time away will help you become more focused on your education objectives.

I don't want to sound preachy here but I think education is probably one of the most important objectives to accomplish at your age. In the overall scheme of things it's a very small time in your life but so important to your future. Statistically the longer you stay out of school the less chance you have of ever returning, and not returning, in my humble opinion, equals lost opportunities in your future, and I speak from experience on this matter.

Can you get by in life without a college education? Of course you can but your life may prove to not be as fulfilling or satisfying. If you do not pursue your education where will you be five years from now? or worse twenty years from now? I'd hate to see you look back in your middle age and wish that you had hung in there. I hope this post doesn't seem negative to you because I'm trying to help you toward a positive view and result. Life is so short so make the most of your opportunities. They may not come around again.

Doesn't feel negative to me.  Thanks :)

Hey! I went back after a 12 year break. Sure I think it might have been better for me had I just bit the bullet and did it 12 years ago, but college is one of those things that you can go back to when you know that you are ready to continue your education.

Rico

Everyone is different and I will say college is not for everyone.  It is incredibly, insanely expensive these days.  And if you are not doing well or it isn't right for you then you are wasting a great deal of money.

Glad you're taking positive steps to move on. A lot of people would wallow in self-pity in your situation. I'm proud of you King.

I played the Eve demo for a bit but wasn't able to get into it. Maybe I'll give it another go.

Like Rico said, it depends on the person. I'm the only one in my immediate family to have attended college. My mom and dad and siblings are all pretty satisfied with their lives as were my grandparents. And they're smart people even without the piece of paper that says "degree".

Good luck Tim. That game sounds interesting. Angela and Jim tried to get me to try it out. Not sure I'm ready to do that yet. Don't play too much... ;)

I know for myself, I took a few years off after my first attempt at post secondary school. I learned a lot, mostly that having a good education or skill is important. Sometimes just working for a year or so, will give you the clarity on what you want to do, or like Justx said, you know you are ready for college.
Sorry to hear the break down in your guild, sounds like moving on from the game was a good decision. I know for my family, WoW had brought along a rather bizarre and painful experience, that we are still getting over. MMO's can be fun, but I would never wrap myself up to much in them. You will probably be better off starting out elsewhere with a new perspective.

KingIsaacLinksr

I'd quote what you guys said...but I'm too darn lazy. ;)

Yes, the time to move on from World of Warcraft was a long time coming.  To me, it had become less a game and more of a job.  And one of my biggest disagreements with the game is the PVP aspect (not balanced) and that certain classes MUST spec for this certain spec in order to play the game "fully".  MMOs are supposed to be able to do whatever you want, at your own pace, and do it within effectiveness.  Wow has lost sight of this.

Eve on the other hand leaves a lot more flexibility in it and there is much less drama there.  Of course, the occasional ship blowing up makes for an interesting night but unlike Wow, there is a lot less of "dog-eat-dog" and more cooperation and helping each other out.  The nice thing also is that Eve doesn't have 3+ hour raids.  Unless you hunt other players for 3 hours.  lol.

Will I play Wow ever again?  At this point, I doubt it.  Wrath of the Lich King pretty much ensures the same broken gameplay but even "easier" with more class imbalance.  (Death Knight for the lose)  And I highly doubt that I could put up with a new "grind".

Anyway, there is my "vent"

King

Oh and if you start out on Eve, remember that there is a very high learning curve very early.  This can be mildly frustrating, but once you get past this, it can be very fun.

Actually Tim, I play WOW the way I want to.  Slowly, not really in a guild, etc.  Just to kick back and have some fun with.  Gaming should never be a job.  I know other people that have had that happen to them too.  I'll never have the top gear, etc. but I don't care.  I'm having fun with it.

Good luck with Eve and your other new choices.
