Fringe from last week can I just say, what the heck was that? It was fine right up until the cartoony look. It just didn't look good and it was very distracting. If they would have played with it a little more I don't think I would have minded it. Or at least made it look better. I think Fringe could pull something like this off, but it was just done really poorly in this episode.

It wasn't that bad as far as animation goes.  It was a little distracting, but it sold you on the fact that it wasn't exactly the normal universe.  Also, animation, good animation is expensive and time consuming.  Its a pity they didn't go to Lucas though, their animation is rather top notch.

Yeah, but I hate those things that combine real and animation together. The whole universe in her head should have been that way or not at all and it was never really explained. Also Olivia's face at the end of the episode just looked so terrible.

I'll agree that Live Action and Animation rarely mix well together.  I've only seen a handful of video games pull it off successfully and a couple movies at best.  Wall-E coming to mind.  The mind is however almost impossible to explain.  (See: Inception).  ;)

The out-of-show reasons are obvious.  To do all that they did in animation in Live Action would not only have been tremendously costly, it wouldn't have looked nearly as good, and could have been dangerous or cut from the show all together.  Not happening for a TV show.  I was going to say that they also did it to cover the fact that Leonard Nimoy couldn't be in the show, yet he obviously provided the voice for himself so....that's a head scratch-er there.  The whole scene with the zombies and the Zepplein never would have happened either, that would have been costly too.

It must be just me, but I liked the concept and everything, but I just can't forgive the animation in this episode. I understand if it was an issue with Nimoy on the show, or a cost thing, but still I just think it could have been done a lot better.

I feel I should note as well I'm very picky when it comes to animation, art, and comics. If the art isn't good it's enough to put me off completely (I reckon that is a lot of what is happening here).

I think the animation look and style were done on purpose.  Keep in mind this was Olivia's mind they were entering.  Her version of herself, etc.  Again, I thought the episode was very cool and interesting.

My gut tells me that Nimoy just doesn't want to appear on screen anymore, hence the animated sequence.  Nothing to back this up, just a guess on my part.  I loved the episode too, one of my favorites of the season.

Well the animation just bugged me. And I wish the whole dream would have been animation at least. I don't get why only some of it was. I know it's just me, but I have so much trouble liking this episode. I'm sure it will be better next week, it's still a great show, but for me this one just really fell short of enjoyable.

I do admit Broyles was great in it though.

I found the mix of live action and animation really cool and it kind of reminded me of "The Wizard of Oz" when they go from black & white (actually sepia) and change to color for the land of Oz.

Yeah I just wish the whole dream would have been animated. That would have made more sense. I think it could have been done better. I'm really not against the use of animation. I think it could have worked, but it felt like an after thought to me.
