I'm not a big sports fan, but Detroit can play hockey.  The Red Wings won Cups in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008, a remarkable accomplishment given nearly one-fourth of their roster has been with them for all four.  But even with that, the NHL doesn't plan to retrofit the Stanley Cup with wings. Put it on permanent display in the Motor City. Or, to save time each spring, engrave the Red Wings' names on it before the playoffs begin.  In the end, they did what they do best.  Play great hockey!

CONGRATS TO THE DETROIT RED WINGS!!!

Detroit has a great organization, and a solid core of players. Even though Pittsburgh had some great superstars, they did not have the depth that Detroit has, so I was not surprised that they won in the end. After the past few years, I suspect Detroit was pretty hungry for another cup, and to prove again that they are more then a great team in the regular season, but in the playoffs as well, after some early exits in the previous seasons.
I must say Pittsburgh really hung in there and never gave up. They just about tied it up in the final seconds last night.
I hope you enjoy it Rico, as I know a few years ago where I live in Edmonton we came very close but lost in the final game. The Stanley Cup is one off the coolest looking trophies around, as I think it gives the players the satisfaction of actually winning it, and then getting to drink champagne from it.

Yep - it's a great trophy!  Very cool looking.  I'm guessing there will be a parade probably early next week.

Congrats Detroit! It must truly be an honour to hoist Lord Stanley's cup.

A little tired but still celebrating.  People were setting off fireworks and our downtown area is  centrally located and celebrants were going until the wee hours this morning.  I got about 5 hours sleep. Zzzzzzzz...

Just got back from shopping for Red Wing stuff.   The office is relaxing dress code tomorrow.

Very nice shot in the arm for this city.

That trophy is a bit big isn't it. How many M&M's could you get in that. Answers on a postcard to Mr R. Dostie.....

Most of it is just the base, with the top portion being the actual cup. The cool thing about the base is that the winning team gets each of the players names engraved onto the cup for the year they won. Over time, they will replace the strips on the base, as they years go by, and I suspect those would be stored at the Hockey hall of fame in Toronto. It is big, but needs to be to hold all the history on it from previous years. Must be a thrill for the players to see their names on it.

Now that is a cool idea. I know nothing about hockey I'm afraid, NFL i know a bit about in fact i support the Bears because my birth place (Birmingham England) is the sister city of Chicago. When i get over to the US I really want to go to a NFL game, a baseball game and anything else that is going on.

Yep - that he does.  Here is the reason from IMDB....

Is a good friend of NHL defense-man Chris Chelios and can often be seen on "Scrubs" (2001) wearing a Chelios hockey jersey or T-shirt of Chelios' chain of restaurants, "Cheli's Chili".

I've eaten at Cheli's before.  Pretty good food.

I actually watched 3 episodes of "Scrubs" last night.  Trying to get caught up on them via Netflix.  Great show!
