Stewart interested in guest role on "Doctor Who"
October 2, 2008 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: TV

Patrick Stewart is enjoying working with David Tennant so much in the much-heralded stage production of "Hamlet," that he has expressed an interest in guest-starring in an upcoming episode of "Doctor Who."

According to Den of Geek, Stewart would be open to a role in the upcoming specials or series five.  Rumors are springing up on-line that Stewart could play the Doctor's old nemesis, the Meddling Monk, last seen during the William Hartnell era.

Some outlets are reporting that Stewart's role wouldn't be a "one and done" villian but a more recurring character and/or nemesis for the Doctor.

At this point, any casting news is purely speculation and hopeful thinking.  Stewart has not been cast in any role on the show, but as soon as we hear anything confirmed, we'll bring you the news right here at Slice of SciFi.

And if you want to find out more about the Meddling Monk, you can pick up the DVD release of "The Time Meddler" or check out the episodes of "The Dalek Masterplan" included in the Lost in Time box-set.

Ah Mortimus otherwise known as The Meddling Monk, a great character. The only downside to that and this is very picky is that he is a Time Lord and as we know The Doctor is meant to be the last of the Time Lords (bar The Master). I would love to see Patrick Stewart in this role, would be brilliant.

DOCTOR WHO ANIMATION SCREENING.

This year's Flip Animation Festival, held in the city of Wolverhampton, features a special screening of the animated episodes from the 1968 Patrick Troughton story The Invasion.

The episodes were lost but in 2006 they were meticulously reconstructed using audio recorded off-air by fans mixed with newly created animation courtesy of Cosgrove Hall. These animated reconstructions have been warmly received and this is a chance to see them on the big screen.

The screening will be followed by an opportunity to find out more about how and why the animated episodes were commissioned, whether there may be further productions in the future and to meet some of the people responsible for making them. The talk will also highlight the world of Doctor Who fan animation.

Speakers Include

    * James Goss, who ran the BBC's Doctor Who website for seven years and as part of this he produced the BBC's first webcasts, and commissioned the Invasion animations. He produced the BBC One animation Doctor Who: The Infinite Quest and has written a Torchwood book.

    * Jon Doyle, from Firestep Productions, 2 x Bafta winning Animation Producer/Director/Artist whose work includes the animated series Scream of the Shalka, The Invasion and The Infinite Quest.

    * Rob Ritchie, fan animator and producer of a raft of well received Doctor Who clips. Rob is contributor to the Who3d feature film project and he created Doctor Who 3d visuals for the stage play, The Trial of Davros.

The panel will be chaired by Myles McLeod, of animation duo The Brothers Mcleod.

The showing is on November 8th and is scheduled to start at 11.15pm. Please note this is a free event, and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please arrive early to pick up a ticket.

I'd love to see PS doing anything in DW. That would be great! (Brining back another Time Lord as well as The Master may be a step too far though.)

CONFESSION TIME

I know this will shock Mesd but I've never sat down and watched the Hartnell episodes. (If nothing else, Peter Purves as an actor put me off). It's a fault I may have to rectify.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Oh dear, ha ha. No worries there is plenty of time. I've done a thread on this forum devoted to classic who called Doctor Who. The Early Years and the first ever (actually its the un-aired pilot) Doctor Who episode An Unearthly Child. You can pick up The Beginning Box Set for £10.99 which i really do recommend.

And give it a go, hell if you don't like it you can sell it on Ebay but I really do think that you will enjoy them especially when i believe black and white adds more tension. If you want to see An Unearthly Child but don't want to buy it shoot me a PM with your address and I'll erm ahem send you a copy ahem!!

ElfManDan

I bought the Beginning Box Set about a year ago. Me and a good buddy of mine really want to see some Hartnell era. It's old, but it's fun to watch. We enjoyed it, for two high school teenagers that's probably saying a lot.

Nice one Shep, Its great to see younger people watching early Who. I always say to people when watching 60's Dr Who put yourself in 1963, think about the fact that this is ground breaking TV, Hartnell is great as the first Dr and its sad that he became very Ill towards the end of his tenure but he still pulls off some marvelous stories.

ElfManDan

I would really like to watch some more of the classic series, but there's so much that I could buy or find to watch, I really don't know which is worth watching first.
Any suggestions from those of you who know the classic series pretty well? What episodes do you suggest I try to find?

Meds

Well as you have already seen the first stories I would then go for (these are on DVd there are loads i would recommend that are not yet realesed) the excellent Dalek Invasion earth which is a Hartnell story, Then go for Tomb of the Cybermen a Patrick Troughton story, great story that. The Seeds of Death another Troughton story is good .Pertwee stories are mainly on Earth but stand out story is The Sea Devils, The Three Doctors and The Green Death. Thats hould get you going for a bit ;)

ElfManDan

Seen the Three Doctors already, I'll check out the others when I can. My thoughts on this are that there are so many DVDs for Classic Doctor Who and money being a little limited I want to get the onces that would be most worth my money.

Thats the reason why i chose those DVD's

Meds,

Watching Doctor Who's current seasons is kind of frustrating for me. Most of the time when I watch TV, I watch it together with my wife Tammy. Though she loves Torchwood, she gets pretty lost fast with the Doctor. She kinda doesn't get it. I sneek a few viewings in every once in a while on the weekends but can never catch up. One thing that is great we have both BBC America and HDNET on our cable system to watch the Doctor and Torchwood on. We watch the current episodes on BBC America in standard DEF and the HDNET airings are one week back but in HIGH DEF. My god these shows in HIGH DEF sparkle!  :jawdrop Especially Torchwood! Really looking forward to that new season.

Meds

Oh yeah its made for the HD market and i'm glad you get to see it in such glory. I have a simialr problem, my wife, Natalie drifts off half way through, saying that though I am a nightmare to sit with when Who is on because no one is allowed to speak, I have even been known to turn the phones off.  I'd opt for the 'why don't you go out with the girls for the day honey' and then have Dr Who taped and sit back with a cold one and enjoy some blue box heaven on your own. Hmmmm I'm onto something here ;) Torchwood I'm no a big fan but i will say it does look fantastic.

Geekyfanboy

Guess I'm lucky and another plus for being gay :).. Harry and I both love Who and Torchwood.. and Rob you need to watch Who and Torchwood on DVD when they come out as the ones on BBC America are edited down and censored.

Meds

Oh really are they edited Kenny, thats pretty crap isn't it, Why have they done that? Dr Who and Torchwood are broadcast at peak times here (eg 6.45pm)
