That confirms what I'll be watching tomorrow evening! I'd seen it in the schedule anyway but will definately tine in now.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Well my money is on Richard Coyle, who was in Steven Moffat's TV show coupling.

The way that they are avoiding gender specific pronouns, I'm inclined to give some weight to the idea that the new doctor might be female.

NEW DOCTOR IS....................................

BBC News has announced that the identity of the actor who will play with Eleventh Doctor, succeeding current Doctor David Tennant, will be announced tomorrow.

The news will come in a special edition of tie-in documentary series Doctor Who Confidential, which is being transmitted on BBC One tomorrow evening at 5.35pm. The episode will also be shown at the same time on BBC Big Screens in town centres across the UK.

The actor was confirmed in the role over the Christmas period, and will begin filming for series five this summer, for transmission in 2010. New executive producer Piers Wenger is quoted as saying: "We believe the actor is going to bring something very special to the role and will make it absolutely their own. I just can't wait to tell everyone who it is - it has been a nail-biting Christmas trying to keep this under wraps!"

The release from the BBC Press Office confirms that the Confidential episode has been retitled "The Eleventh Doctor" (it was formerly advertised as "The Ten Doctors"), and will feature the actor concerned giving his or her thoughts on having been cast. The press release also suggests that the last of David Tennant's episodes as the Doctor will be broadcast in the New Year of 2010.

I love all the hype for this.. Who is HUGE...

I like that idea.. but I think that would alienate alot of the traditional fanbase... but here's to hoping.

No more new Who until 2010?!?!  Even the last of David's run?

No David's run is in 2009.. they have three more specials to air and the Xmas 2009 special. Then we get new Who in 2010.

The next Who Special comes out Easter 2009

Hmmm, that isn't what Meds post says.  Read the last sentence.

Maybe they'll show two of Tennetts Whos this year and then the 2009 Xmas special and the final Tennett Who early 2010 that will lead to the new Doctor.

Yeah the three specials are to be filmed in Feb and March (depending on Tennants back op). So the new specials should be out July, August with filming of the new series in the summer. I should point out i am totally against a female Doctor. The Doctor is male, end of. There are female Time Lords who have been in the series so i think its doubtfull. Moffatt is behind this and he is a old school fan so i would be shocked to be told its a woman. I would like to see Romana or The Rani come back (Female Time Lords) for future episodes.

If I recall.. didn't they say at the end of The Next Doctor (Xmas speical 2008) they say that the next speical is going to air at Easter (April)

Also we do have a female timelord... we have the Doctor's daughter.

Yes but with Tennants back problem i think they will have to push that back a bit. He's still in a bad way. The Doctors daughter is a tricky one, i would love to see her come back.

I thought they shot some of them last year.. they normally shot six months in advance.

No, the story I heard is that shooting is dependent on health. I don't think there's anything in the can at his point.

FWIW the Doctor is male. I guess I'm too old school to take on a different view. As Meds says, Time Lords have always had a specific gender. Changing that now would be a step too far. I'd still watch but it wouldn't be the same show.
