I sincerely think there needs to be a sociological study of Doctor Who fans, because unlike other fandoms where all characters are generally liked, we're all across the board. :D

And don't worry Meds, I know where you're coming from when it comes to your dislike of Donna.  I have a friend who has similar angry feelings about Xander from "Buffy."

How can anyone be upset that Adric died?

None too soon I said (at the time). I never liked him (for reasons I can't explain).

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I found it very disturbing when Donna's mind got wiped and she became the same idiot as in 'the runaway bride'.  I almost wish they would of killed her off instead.  She finally was becoming a strong character (well...too strong in the last episode, but I won't go there) and then she just lost everything.  Lossing everything without knowing you lost it is a very disturbing thought for me.
And I really wanted to see a tear in the Doctor's eye in that last scene.  Knowing that he 'lost' another companion has to be tearing him up inside.

Meds

Well it was for her own good so in essence he has saved her but condemn her to her old life. But there will be an essence of the Doctor inside here so she will be different. Plus her family, well her mother was the biggest problem in her life, they will act different towards her now so her life is already better than it was in the Runaway *shiver* Bride.

I'm curious to see if they bring back Donna's grandad, Wilf (Bernard Cribbins) into any future episodes.  I always enjoyed his character.  He would make a good companion for the Doctor.
Was Bernard Cribbins in the 2008 xmas episode again?  We are still waiting for it to air here in the States.  Anyone know the airdate for the 2008 xmas episode in the U.S.?

Feathers

No, no Wilf in this years episode since it was set in Victorian times rather than the present day.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Meds

Wilf would make a great companion, plus a nod to Bernards role in the Dr Who movie back in the 60's.

Feathers

Oh yes, I can just imagine that. I can even see it working without me thinking of Wombles every time I bear him.

Some info on the first Special.

Executive Producer and Head Writer Russell T. Davies reveals that the forthcoming Doctor Who special Planet Of The Dead will serve as an "antidote" to recent adventures.

The departing showrunner told Doctor Who Magazine: "After the events of Journey's End and The Next Doctor I think it's time to get away from the past and have an adventure with lots of new elements. And lots of fun too!

"The next Special should be a nice antidote to Christmas, with a bit of sunshine if we're lucky. And with not one but two alien races that you've never seen before."

I like how a little bit of "sunshine" is expected out of an episode entitled "Planet of the Dead." ;)

Rumor: Ryan Could Be New "Who" Companion
January 20, 2009 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: TV

Former "Bionic Woman" actress Michelle Ryan is reportedly in conversations with the BBC to assume the role of the new companion on "Doctor Who" according to the UK's Daily Mirror.

The Mirror reports Ryan has been "in secret talks with BBC bosses" about joining Matt Smith in the TARDIS for the fifth series, which will debut in 2010.

"The BBC launched Michelle's acting career as Zoe Slater in 'EastEnders' and she will be thrilled to be back with them in such a legendary role," said a undisclosed source. "It's an incredible opportunity for her and even though she's had a lot of success already she is still young and at the start of her career."

American audiences will know Ryan from her role as Jamie Summers in last year's "Bionic Woman" reboot. She has worked with new "Who" producer, Steven Moffat on "Jekyll."

Lily Allen, 23, Kelly Brook, 29, and 23-year-old Carey Mulligan - who played Sally Sparrow in the third season's "Blink" - have all recently been linked to the coveted assistant's role.

The BBC is reported to be close to announcing the final casting news soon.  However, until we have something official, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt...

Interesting. The concept of an EastEnders Slater in the TARDIS is alarming to say the least!

Of course, I've never seen the bionic woman so don't know how she carried that. She may be an excellent actress despite the Soap history.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

She was pretty good i thought in the bionic woman, but she was over shadowed by Rico's TV screen love ;)
