Playing at the RSC in Stratford England at the moment is Hamlet starring Dr Who actor David Tennant and RSC veteran and one time Enterprise captain Picard has begun its run until November. Believe me i've been trying to get tickets (sci fi and Shakespeare fan here) for ages and its impossible unless you want to spend stupid money on ebay. Reviews have been very good..

Benedict Nightingale, critic for The Times, says the production "gives Tennant the chance to show the world that he has the range to tackle the most demanding classical role of all - and, praise be, he seizes it. I've seen bolder Hamlets and more moving Hamlets, but few who kept me so riveted throughout." He also has high praise for Patrick Stewart in the dual role of Claudius and the ghost of Hamlet's father. Also in The Times, director Gregory Doran discusses the cuts he made to the play's text.

In The Daily Telegraph, Charles Spencer says that Tennant "isn't in the pantheon of the great Hamlets yet" but adds that he "discovers almost every ounce of sarky humour" and "is at his best though when he dares with his emotions and lets rip."

Paul Taylor, reviewer for The Independent, notes that "it's pure snobbery to suppose that Doctor Who fans and people who can appreciate Hamlet are mutually exclusive groups." He writes, "Tennant is adept at most aspects of the role but he excels when the prince becomes a prankish provocateur."

Writing for The Guardian, Michael Billington calls the RSC's production "one of the most richly textured, best-acted versions of the play we have seen in years" and says that Tennant "has no difficulty in making the transition from the BBC's Time Lord to a man who could be bounded in a nutshell and count himself a king of infinite space."

Here are some pictures from the production.

Well it turns out that the theatre was innundated with Trek and Who fans asking the actors for autographs. Eventually the RSC banned any fans wanting the signatures.
How on Earth did they know who we were?
What do you think gave them away? Do you reckon they all went in their Trek and Who shirts?  ;D

That's right my 2 favorite actors of all time. I wish I could see this play. I love Hamlet in any form, but with these two guys must be a fantastic experience.

Meds, hope you can go see it soon.

Hamlet is my favorite Shakespeare play. I did a thesis on it for my art criticism class comparing Andy Warhol's fear of death to Hamlet's. "To be or not to be, that is the question... whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,  or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing, end them. I wish I could see this play!
