LOL I've always wondered- What is it about the Hoff & Germany? Why is he so popular there?

I think he was popular, in his time, but I might have been a bit too young for Hasselhof-fever, I don't understand it, too.

So I googled and found an plausible explanation:

" (...) in amerika hatte er mit dieser "stimme" keinen erfolg. die amerikaner mögen eher gute stimmen. deutschland und auch österreich ist da offener für solche trallala-liedchen und stimmen. in den usa wird eher die stimme in den vordergrund gestellt. david hatte halt glück hier und vor allem einen cleveren manager und produzenten.(...)"

A liberal translation with some own theories included:

Germans aren't that demanding concerning the voice of a singer, and shallow songs were popular and don't matter when you don't understand what is sung anyway. A good refrain in simple words so every German can understand it and sing along might even have been an advantage!
(Not understanding songs - it's often a blessing, I tell you!)

Maybe he was considered a representative of what Germans believed was/loved about USA, but in any case he had good managers/marketing who saw a potential market and knew how to sell there!

Today I've been doing a random shuffle through Public Enemy songs. I think Louder Then A Bomb was the best...and I weep for what rap and hip-hop has become!

Some Joe Jackson for today.  This song seems appropriate for me right about now...

My podcast playlist ran a little short today so I set the "pod" to shuffle....this one made me smile most. And of course, I cranked it up.

Got it from a "best of the '00 years" list, that was three days ago, still hitting "repeat" on youtube.

Been listening/hearing this song a lot lately...

This is a cool video.  After the first 30 seconds or so, the main song kicks in and is called "Sticking with You" by Addison Road.  Great song and nice video!

A friend of mine got me hooked on Owl City a few days back. Anyway I really like this song called The Saltwater Room.

Always have liked this song - but man, this video is kind of dated now.
