Actually, this pond was a training ground for the amphibious Dalek model, a prototype for the one emerging from the River Thames (The Dalek Invasion of Earth). This once bright-red colored model was discarded as the contact with water caused a short circuit in its auto-eject systems. The unlucky inhabitant didn't survive this unexpected exposure to earths atmosphere and only the lower half of the shell could be retrieved due to its tracking beacon.*
