With the release of the new movie, I was just wondering how everyone would rank the 11 Trek films, from least favorite to favorite.  Here's my list, from worst to best:

11- The Final Frontier.  There are a few memorable moments, but for the most part, this movie makes me cringe.  'Uhura Fan-Dance' springs to mind..  :ohwell

10- Insurrection.  Neat action scenes, and some really humorous moments.  The characters just didn't do it for me, though.  I wasn't wild about the Bakku.

9- Generations. I loved finally seeing the enterprise-B, and Kirk's 'death' at the beginning was very well-done.  The 1701-D looked great on the big-screen as well.  I also got a kick out of seeing the return of Lursa & Betor.  Kirk's 'real' death felt kind of empty.  All in all, though, it was a nice passing-of-the torch film.

8- The Motion Picture. Even though I fell asleep when I first saw it in theaters (give me a break, I was only 8  ;) ), I now recognize this film as being a visually stunning love-letter to Star Trek fans.  It brought the crew back to life, and in a big way.

7- Nemesis.  I liked the story, I enjoyed the glimpse into Romulan society, and I enjoyed the space battles.  Fun stuff.

6- The Voyage Home. With the return of Spock at the end of III, this film almost felt like a family reunion of sorts.  And seeing the crew running around on "modern-day" Earth made for some really funny moments.

5- The Undiscovered Country. This film felt like a return to the best of Classic Trek-- topical social commentary disguised as a sci-fi film.  Cool Klingon characters, and Sulu FINALLY gets some respect- Captain of the Excelsior.  COOL!

In many ways, this film felt like a more fitting 'passing of the torch' than Generations.

4- The Search For Spock. Spock dies.  SPOCK COMES BACK!!! 'Nuff said. :)

3-First Contact. Easily the BEST of the TNG films.  Cool new ship + the Borg + a peak into the beginnings of the Federation = WIN.

2- Star Trek (2009). Not only one of the best Trek films, but possibly the most enjoyable Sci-Fi film I've seen in the past 10 years.  This movie made me feel like I hoped the Star Wars prequels would.  A brilliant approach to re-booting the franchise, with great casting, great acting, and a brilliant score.

1- The Wrath Of Khan. If The Motion Picture slowly opened a door of possibilities for the Trek Franchise, TWOK kicked down that door & took the world by storm! Exciting naval battles, the return of a classic villain, an amazing score, the perfect depiction of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy magic, and one of the most emotionally devastating moments in sci-fi history.

I still get a kick watching this film.  ;D

Unrated - The Final Frontier Um...I've never actually watched this one.

10- The Motion Picture Bored me rigid as a child and I haven't watched it since

9- The Voyage Home Fun but a bit too cutesy for me. I watch star trek for futuristic stuff so what was almost a SciFi comedy in 1980 California wasn't really my cup of tea.

8- Generations Nice to see the new crew on the big screen at the time but history may not be so kind to it. Too much of a TV series carry over in one sense. (I like the E so a film with the D isn't as good)

7- The Search For Spock Unfairly low rating as I haven't seen it in years.

6- Nemesis  I'm with Wraith - I liked the story, I enjoyed the glimpse into Romulan society, and I enjoyed the space battles.

5- Insurrection Something about the informal nature i.e. out of uniform etc appealed to me. I can still rewatch this.

4- The Undiscovered Country Excellent stuff all through and a great send off to the old crew with the actors sign-off etc.

3-First Contact Introduced the Soveraign class so that sells it to me. Not so convinced by Cochrane and would have liked mor Riker.

2- Star Trek Still not sure whether I'm rating this simply because it's recent. Need a bit more time...

1- The Wrath Of Khan

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I'll be curious to see if anyone else ranks TMP as high as I did. I loved that movie. Saw it in the theaters and enjoyed all the hype and build up to it's release. Granted, the acting is terribly stiff and the movie lacks a lot of character emotion, but fundamentally it's a great Star Trek story with visuals that to this day are still some of the best I have ever seen.

Erm.... Excuse me, I think we all just missed a massive point here and I think it would be remiss of me not to bring it up..........
Mike just admitted to never having seen "The Final Frontier".
I see he just mentioned it quickly in the vain hope that we would miss this fact.
But No sir, not I. I nearly fell out my chair when I saw this.
YOu have two weeks to either watch this fine edition to the series  :ohwell or hand over your Geek card. Star Trek fan indeed... :biggrin.
