Durnit Bioware where is my beta invite?! This game is getting me excited.

The good news is I get to  "test" the game this week. The bad news... I have never played a game like this with a mouse and keyboard... which makes it a bit frustrating for me.but i suppose its just growing pains i will have to get over eventually.

ElfManDan

Roosterteeth Podcast talked about The Old Republic on this weeks episode.

Warning: These guys can sometimes get crude, and this episode will likely make you want to just give up living and just play The Old Republic.

They make it sound so exciting though. I'm now really excited, even though I'm gonna have to figure out where to find time to play it.

I'm not sure what to think about this game...on the one hand its made by Bioware who have shown to make really good stories.  On the other hand, its controlled by EA who have been getting anti-consumer here lately.  Plus I have some doubts as to the actual gameplay, but really can't say much on that until the actual finished product is out, I can't even make a determination on the BETA as that is the point, its a BETA.

So I'm skeptical, but hopeful.

Did you listen to the Podcast Tim? Cause they talk about how awesome the storylines are. It's an MMO with a high end story, that you play through as a group. It's a highly social game with a good story. These guys aren't Bioware either (the Roosterteeth guys who've played it), they are game fanatics who are talking to a Bioware tester and how they talk about this brought back all my hope in the game.

Yeah, I know who Roosterteeth is :).  But no, didn't listen yet, would have to find some time to.  I'll probably still be skeptical despite listening to them.  Its mostly because of EA and their recent failings that gives me a lot of concern.  EA promises a lot and delivers very little.

But this is still Bioware we are talking about, EA may have a part, but they are more a distributor. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and the two previous Knights of the Old Republic series have been amazing. It's the only gaming company I trust to not disappoint. Also really when you listen to the podcast you will understand what I'm talking about.

Dragon Age 2 was not very successful and got hit a lot for issues.  The recent Origin and Battlefield 3 debacle also has me concerned about this company.  And this game will be under Origin which I am currently opposed to.  I'm not even sure if I can get over my aversion to Origin even for Mass Effect 3.  I just don't know.

Your absolutely right that Bioware has had a lot of good success and Mass Effect 2 is my favorite game of all time.  But EA's push to be the new content distributor is causing them to cross lines I consider uncross-able by the gaming industry.  I don't mind competition, but strong-arming the consumer like this on the PC-platform is....well, unethical.

Yes, unethical companies stop me from buying games all the time, take a look at Ubisoft/Gameloft who is on my permabanned list for instituting their DRM-scheme.  I am not alone either.

But to bring this back around to Star Wars: KOTR MMO (whoops on tangent), I remain hopeful in its success.  The last Star Wars MMO fizzled out and died recently and STO has a questionable potential.  Even Eve Online is currently on a cascade-failure that looks to be killing the company.  I really want a good sci-fi MMO to play.  I really do.  So the question is, does EA & Bioware have that ability?  EA may be a content distributor, but they have control of the products they release so only time will tell.

Although I have to say this, the Special editions of this game are hideously overpriced.  Considering we have to pay a monthly fee on top of that $150 deal?  That ain't happening for me anyway.

I can say I will probably still wait to play this game when it comes out. I know I'm gonna be a busy at least till February and until I complete my assessment DVDs. So in that time the price may drop and maybe they will have a free version available. Either way eventually I'm excited to play it.

Well, I can safely say this is one of the most expensive games to come out in recent memory and I think its because they are banking on the Star Wars title to sell it.  Which is a safe bet and they will probably sell a ton of them.  A free version?....maybe.  I'm not sure because the Free-to-play VS Subscription fight is far from over on which is better.

I meant more like a trial version. And the price for the collector's edition maybe, but the actual game seems normal to me whenever I look at games. Guess the fact is they still will sell them and make more even if they sell less. I'll probably wait and see what happens. I still need to play Mass Effect 2 (when I get an X-Box I shall, that may not be a while though).

Oh and I forgot to mention I pulled out the old original Knights of the Old Republic for a little while yesterday to relax from my Personal Training course. That game is still so much fun.
