So... The Doctor regenerates into an incarnation that has a limp, a vicodin addiction, and a really crabby attitude?

Nah, you can't appreciate Hugh Laurie until you have experienced him in the original English! :)

That would be great to see Hugh Laurie as a House type Dr. Who.
In honor of my still living father - "I drank what?"

News from the BBC

Filming on the new series of Doctor Who began on the morning of Monday, 20th February and the latest press release gives details of guest stars, plus quotes from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.

The press release in full:
Filming is underway on the new series of Doctor Who and the last for the Ponds!
Filming has just started on Series 7 of Doctor Who in Cardiff. This series will see the last days of the Ponds with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill returning for their final, rollercoaster voyage with the Doctor. Amy and Rory have been at the Doctor's side for more than two series but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?
On returning for his third series as the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith says: "It's thrilling and exciting to be back and working with two of my closest friends."
Karen Gillan adds: "It's just brilliant to be back on the TARDIS with Matt and Arthur for our craziest adventures yet."
Plus new guest stars so far confirmed to star will include David Bradley, Rupert Graves and Mark Williams.
Series 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when the Doctor meets a new friend. Prepare yourselves for thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year. Fourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes - each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you've never seen them before.

So it looks like the series will have all stand alone episodes instead of a big story ark. Saying  that it is working towards the 50th anniversary so there has to be a connection somewhere along the line.

QuoteFourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes

Hmm I hope that's an exaggeration....

Meds

I hope not, bring on the big episodes. ;)

Awesome!  Can't wait!  What's the projected start of airing this?  Fall 2012?  Winter??

Meds

I think we are looking at a October showing.

Dangelus

Can we have at least one nice quiet introspective episode please? ;)

Ok, have you guys heard this rumor?  If true, this Benedict Cumberbatch guy is turning into one busy fellow.

The series preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, "Doctor Who" may be preparing for a special guest star from another Steven Moffat television series. Express.co.uk is reporting a rumor that "Sherlock" leading man Benedict Cumberbatch may be gearing up to play a new regeneration of the Doctor's arch-foe, The Master.

First appearing in 1971's "Terror of the Autons," the Master, like the Doctor, is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey and, as such, the character can "regenerate" and has been played by quite a few actors over the years. Roger Delgado originated the role with Anthony Ainley in the part the longest. Most recently, John Simm played The Master in the 2007 series (which then featured David Tennant as the Doctor).

Cumberbatch recently appeared on the big screen in War Horse and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and can, coming up, be seen in both The Hobbit and in J.J. Abram's untitled Star Trek sequel.

"Doctor Who" will resume broadcast later this year with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill all confirmed to return.
