Great episode - but it's hard to piece it all together.  Must watch again.  But,...
Ok, what's the thing about the Doctor's real name?  I didn't hear a name for the Doctor.  Or was the big reveal John Hurt??
Scott

I think...
That John Hurt is really the 9th regeneration of The Doctor. Could be the Valyard. If he is the 9th, then this would be the Doctors 12th form, but he would still be the 11th Doctor because the other one can't be called the Doctor because of what he did. That or since Clara said the Doctor is the 11th, maybe this is hinting that John Hurt is really someone else. Maybe the Other.. I dunno, lots to think about.
Well
His name is a secret but the BIG secret is this unknown incarnation of The Doctor that nobody knew about from what I can understand. From what some are speculating this was a regeneration after the 8th that didn't publicly declare himself add the doctor. Could be interesting.
Yep, I'm with Meds on
Clara being an ordinary person to which something extraordinary has happened. No Timelord DNA there, simply a brave decision to go and help a friend.
The idea of
John Hurt being the real 9th incarnation of The Doctor didn't even occur to me. With all the comments about it being 'all me' and the fact that this is his tomb we're talking about (so somewhere in his future), I took the 'new guy' to be a future incarnation we've never yet come across. I still lean to that explanation, to be honest, but we'll no doubt find out in due course.
Wouldn't it be a real kick in the teeth for
Paul McGann if it turns out they'd got someone else to be #8 after a number of years. I hope they're not doing that.
I do like the fact that we revisited
Richard E. Grant's character since he seemed somewhat under-used at Christmas. Obviously this was part of the overall purpose of using him, to place him in three epiodes rather than just the first.
I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I'm sure that
the image of McGann has appeared several times in the show so he is cannon.
Oh, I agree but (to avoid spoiler tags) if they were to revisit that character later in life in this way then I think it would be a little unfair.

I hear what you're saying, but
While she has a bunch of confetti selves out there, they seem like they fit the time they are in. If they are born, and it seems to imply from other episodes that they have lived full lives, wouldn't the Claira on Gallifrey need to have been born on Gallifrey to be in position to help the Doctor? Each of the Clairas seem to have full lives before meeting the Doctor, my only question is what happened to Claira on Gallifrey as she doesn't seem to have been killed at that meeting.
ChrisMC

I'm with you on that, X.
Like she came to human parents on Earth, I think something similar caused an incarnation of hers to be born on Gallifrey, although I don't know what to make of her just being on the Tardis in the time of teh 6th Doctor.
OK, intresting point. I hadn't picked up on it in quite that way but I can't argue against it. It actually makes me wonder if the writers had considered it from that angle at all.

Don't know if this is official or not.. either way it's pretty awesome..

Doctor Who - The 50th Anniversary BBC One Trailer

Meds

Yeah that's a fan made trailer, pretty cool though.

So, BBC says this is Matt Smith's last run as the Doctor. He'll be regenerating at the end of the year. What's everyone's view on this?

Meds

No surprise there really. In fact word had been going around the writers media the past few weeks but like everything you never say due to pure speculation though the earlier reports on Matt doing series 8 was pretty strong at one point.

So new Doctor, me I'd love an older Dr but my money is on Shaun Evans.
